THE CENTURY-LONG RESISTANCE OF TAHIR MEHA
FAMILY
Conclusion
Nebi and Tahir Meha, great patriots from Lower
Prekaz will remain one of the brightest figures in Kosovo s
modem history because they obliterated the Yugoslav
police forces in the most sensational way, since it was well
known their forces after World War Two were being led by
the Serbian nationalistic guerilla forces.
May 13 was the founding day of the Yugoslav
Policy, thus the oppressing leadership of the time through
its apparatuses -the State Security Administration, more
commonly known as UDBA, and its other informative
societies- planned to celebrate this day by besieging and
attacking the village of Lower Prekaz, and even killing
inhabitants of the village. Their plans were to arrest Tahir
Meha along with his father Nebih, send them to Belgrade,
and present them as tokens of victory over the rebellion of
unruly Kosovar Albanians. The oppressor planned the
victory of this action on a defenseless family, and with their
frantic attack they intended to greatly strengthen the image
of the State Police and the State Security Administration.
Additionally this action, which certainly called for
celebrations amongst the highest authorities and societies of
Belgrade, would serve as a vocal tool in informing the

reserve units who were mobilized specifically for this event!
Even helicopters were seen flying the skies of Drenica that
day. An entire country was up in the war against Tahir and
his father in the heart of legendary village of Prekaz!...
people that the country s enemy the initiator of the 1981
demonstrations , the revolutionary -Tahir Meha, was
caught alive!
The plan however had failed because Tahir Meha
and his old father Nebih forced the oppressors who were
fighting these two brave men from Drenica, to reveal a
whole arsenal of weapons. Even the large number of police
officers and paramilitaries that the Serbs had at their
disposal were not sufficient to defeat the two brave
Albanian men from Prekaz; hence, they had to call for the

It is known that Prekazi was the bone where Serbia
had broken the teeth” of its paramilitary and military forces
in the tough resistance that this village demonstra ted, a
resistance evidenced by the history in later years as well.
This village was home to great patriotic Albanian figures
such as, Azem and Shota Galica, Ahmet Delia, Polluzha
Shaban Nebi Meha and Tahir Meha, who stood out to the
oppressing regime for many decades, to be followed by the
last war that was marked by the fall the legendary
commander Ademjashari and his family. The fall of these
brave men and women and of thousands more certainly
paved the path towards Kosovo s freedom.
The time that marked the murder of Tahir Meha,
Nebih Meha and other Albanian nationalists was a time of

great ideals for the freedom of Kosovo, and regardless of
the whole state exercised genocide, this epoch achieved to
feed the realization of the historical dream of Albanians and
lay the foundations for the freedom of Kosovo. Killing of
Nebi Tahir Meha was not simply an isolated matter of a
rebellious family, but it was also a matter of sending a
signal to all the other Albanian boys and men that they
would receive the same treatment if they also chose to not
obey the Serbian oppressor. The implementation of anti-
Albanian projects by the Serbs can be evidenced throughout
the history. They secretly, but sometimes even openly,
exercised violence, imprisoned, liquidated and exercised
systematic terror over the Albanian population. All these
acts were notoriously prearranged and calculated by the
clans of people such as Vasa Qubrilloviq, Ivo Vukotiq, Ivo
Andric and many other Serbian nationalists. The attack on
the house of Tahir and Nebih Meha was not spontaneous
attack; the operative plans found in the investigation files
reveals that this attack was rather part of a great anti-
Albanian project.Their attack was a continuation of the
ongoing torture and murder of Albanian people. The project
was organized and well prepared for a long time at the
Academy of Sciences and Arts of Serbia. This was an old
platform but with a new state scenario which had never
changed its main objective- annihilating the Albanian
population. However, at the same time the brave men of
Drenica demonstrated the Albanian resolution and signaled
the Serbs that they would not give up so easily without
bringing the dream of their forefathers to reality- the
freedom of Kosovo!
