SUBLIME VALUE OF THE NATION
Summary
"And, above all, beware of the curse of history and do not forget it
when you give your opinion!"
Hasan Prishtina
I start this summary with the advice, above, from Hasan
Prishtina - a testament for future Albanian generations.
A sentence that comes from the Bible through the Qur'an to
us states: "A warrior with his life, a scholar with a pen, a rich
person with wealth, stand guard in defense of the freedom of the
homeland!"
With complete confidence I can say that Hasan Prishtina
illustrates all three: as a fighter, a scholar, and a rich person able
to protect the integrity and freedom of his homeland: Albania,
where the bread is called "buke" and the water "uje"!

Colossus of the Nation: Hasan Prishtina
Emil Zola wrote: "Only daring men die unbeatable and with-
out giving up from the past." Our great Hasan Prishtina, five years
before his martyrdom, would state: "I have a certain path in front
of me, I have walked on it and will follow it to death: the path to full
independence for entire Albania!”
The future national hero, Hasan, was proud of his origin,
Drenica, which was his political stronghold in fighting for the
nation’s freedom. He got his first lessons in his hometown,
Vushtri, where he finished the gymnasium. He came from an
intellectual and trading family that gave a President to the town’s
Albanian League of Prizren as well as two pashas. He ended high
school in Thessaloniki and Istanbul, studying in French.
Hasan Prishtina was linked with the fate of the war for
Albanian liberation from the beginning of the twentieth century.
His involvement came after the victory of the Young Turk Revo-
lution of 1908, which had its stronghold in Albanian territories.
Our Renaissance man Sami Frasheri wrote, "An eternal
person is made of his deeds." So let us walk through the deeds of
Hasan, like the stones of a torrential river, starting from his ele-

ction to the Ottoman Parliament representing Pristina Prefecture
in November 1908.
As the Young Turks of Turkish ethnicity abused the victory of
the democratic revolution, the intellectuals of the Albanian renais-
sance opted for armed insurrection to gain autonomy for Albania.
This would include the four vilayets (provinces) with an Albanian
majority: Kosovo, Shkoder, Manastir (Bitola) and Janina (loan-
nina), with a total size of 90,100 km2. These demands were at the
root of the political program for the Uprisings of 1909 - 1910, 1911
and 1912, which focused on Albanian areas that today are not
part of the Republic of Albania.
In fact, Hasan Prishtina showed the first signs of disagree-
ment with the Young Turks after the Congress of the Albanian
Alphabet in Manastir, who took a decision detrimental to the future
of the nation. When the Uprising of 1910 started in Kosovo, Hasan
initiated the call for the Second Congress of Manastir, which was
led by personalities loyal to him. This congress decided the fate of
our alphabet.
In addition, supported by the leaders of the education club
"Xhemijet" of Shkup (Skopje), Hasan Prishtina sent 38 students
from Kosovo to the Elbasan College, most of them with his fu-
nding. Hence the intellectual Josif Bageri, writing of Hasan’s
contributions to the Albanian school and Albania’s freedom, con-
cluded: "This brave son of Albania is an example with his actions
to so many Albanians." Similarly, Mustafa Asim Kruja, co-activist
and first biographer of Hasan, would state: "His word, his pen and
his purse are available to the national cause. In Parliament’s
debate he is Jupiter, who roars and turns to others the thunders
from the sky upon the head of the Albanian people’s enemies! "
The knowledge and courage of Hasan Prishtina are
evidenced in the foundations of "Shqypnis" (Albania) of Hafez
Ymer - "as a Moon .!” In his work for ethnic Albania’s indepen-
dence, Hasan was connected with Vienna’s military circles from
1904. A week before announcing a war cry for the Albanian
Liberation Revolution in the Ottoman Parliament he sought diplo-
matic support from Vienna and later England and other European
powers for Albania’s independence from the Ottoman Empire.

A day after Hasan Prishtina's historic speech in the Turkish
Parliament (January 11, 1912), on the initiative of Ismail Qemajli a
"Taksim Assembly" was called, where an oath was made to orga-
nize an overall uprising aiming at autonomy for all of Albania.
Hasan Prishtina without delay returned to Shkup (Skopje),
the historical capital of Kosovo, made contact with representatives
of the Bulgarian VMRO for a joint war of liberation, and also asked
England to support Albania’s national cause.
On May 5, 1912 he came to the Albanian fortress - Drenica
and made a war cry for an overall uprising.
This cry echoed around the Vilayet of Kosovo, and succe-
sses on the front soon opened the "gates" of Prishtina to Hasan.
On July 24, 1912, the Council of Ministers of Turkey formed a
committee to discuss the future of Albania in the Ottoman Empire.
Negotiations continued until August 9.
The main requests that Hasan Prishtina made can be
summarized as follows: "That the borders of Albania be officially
recognized; that civil and military authorities include ethnic Albani-
ans; that an Albanian army serves in Albania under the command
of Albanian officers; and that official actions in Albania should be
made in the Albanian language".
These requests were detailed in "14 historical points of
Hasan Prishtina" that would ensure the autonomy of Albania.
Unfortunately, other parts of Albania did not rise up to the degree
required by the historic moment. Meanwhile the Serbian govern-
ment intervened with money among those commanding the big-
gest part of the insurgent forces, which meant that the fate of
Albania was not settled according to the Oath of Taksim.
This "Albanian" and “commercial” “thing" made that the Va-
lue of the nation, Hasan did everything possible to ensure an ar-
med victory. So, on August 17, 1912, he informed the uprising he-
adquarters and world opinion that "requests received by the
government are those proposed by all Albania ", and on August
18, he ordered the dispersal of the insurgents.
To record the sufferings and fate of Kosovo’s uprising of May
5 to 18 August 1912, Hasan Prishtina wrote the brochure, “A short
memory of the Albanian Uprising of 1912".

The great man, Hasan Prishtina, drew upon the loyalty of
Bedri be Pejani, Salih Gjukė Dukagjini and Rexhep Mitrovica, who
contributed to the organization of the Overall Albanian Assembly
of Vlora. On the same day Albania declared independence, Nove-
mber 28, Hasan spoke at a session of the Ottoman Parliament in
Istanbul and asked the Cabinet for quick military actions to save
Albania from occupation and genocidai massacres by the armies
of the Balkan Alliance. The alliance was supported by the five gre-
at powers, the butchers of Albania: Russia, England, France, Italy
and Austria-Hungary.
En route home from Istanbul, Hasan Prishtina was captured
by the Serbian army and sent to the Kalemegdan prison, where
people caught in Shkup and elsewhere in Kosovo were brought,
among them Serbian loyalists who would later be rewarded with
life pensions.
The distinguished philosopher, Emerson, wrote: "People with
character are the consciences of the people that belong".
After his release from internment in the spring of 1913, the
pioneer of our nation arrived in Vlora via Vienna and Trieste to
contribute to the establishment of the state of Albania. Hasan
Prishtina faithfully followed this path during the First World War in
Kosovo, as well as in the “London Albania” of the early 1920s. The
need to support the life of the nation brought him to the post of
Prime Minister of Albania on December 8, 1921, but in order to
avoid civil war, he resigned on December 11. For most of the
personalities vested with provincial government, London Albania
was sufficient!?
Hasan Prishtina worked tirelessly to raise the Albanian state,
which was brutally divided and faced an insurmountable obstacle
in the personalities vested with power. He was even forced to
become a fugitive with his noble wife Igballe.
He never stopped working for the reunification of the divided
nation, up to the minute of his martyrdom (on August 14,1933) by
the extended hand of Ahmet Zogolli and the centuries-old anti-
Albanian interests.
The importance of Hasan Prishtina’s exemplary patriotic acts
for the Albanian nation is summarized in a sentence from Stak
Mark Mirdita, the martyr of ethnic Albania in bloody November

1944: "In life you have to tread a long way, but one must not le-
ave, ever! It is the way of Albanianism that comes from Skender-
beg to Hasan Prishtina."
This is a trust inviolable for future generations!
