| adam_text | CRITICAL STUDIES OF THE LITERATURE
Resume
In this book, “Critical Studies of the Literature”, divi-
ded into three parts, I treated Albanian literature and literary
criticism of the last decades, therefore, the trends and phe-
nomena that have followed this literature, in both genres, in
poetry and prose, but I mainly focused at a critical evaluation
as an activity that follows literature and which is being de-
veloped in parallel with it. Without literature there is no lite-
rary criticism, and when we mention literature immediately
we think about its literary judgment.
Although the main topic of this book falls on Albanian
literature, in poetry and prose, but in some cases T wrote abo-
ut books of foreign authors translated into Albanian. As is
the case with the works of Jalaluddin Rumi’s Mevlana in
poetry, or that of Dostoyevsky, Proust, James in prose.
How was time treated and how do certain events affect
in poetry are two issues that I have tried to answer in the first
part of the book Studime (Studies).
This section opens with the study “Historia nè poezinè
e sotme shqipe: nga himnizimi e deri te parodizimi (History
in contemporary Albanian poetry: from eulogy to parody), in
which I treated history in contemporary Albanian poetry, cre-
ated in Albania and Kosovo from its beginning to 2000: di-
fferences in treatment which came as a result of various

poetics which were pre-dominant in these two countries, the
evolution of the treatment of this topic, as well as the over-
coming of these two poetics in the 90s, which were conditio-
ned by state censorship. After treatment of history in contem-
porary Albanian poetry, reader of this book will find out
certain impacts that some of specific events had on poetry
written in Kosovo. I have tried step by step to highlight the
impact that the year of 1981 had in the poetry of Kosovo.
This effect that was made in the structure of this poetry, as
the impact that extends in width, but also that penetrates deep
in this poetry, as the influence that comes from the outside,
but being internalized affects the structure of this poetry, is
seen in its totality.
Also, a special space in the book is devoted to the
changes that occurred in Albanian poetiy in the ‘90s, in the
pan-Albanian spoken world.
In the ‘90s, political changes and especially the literary
liberation from State-sponsored censorship, on both sides of
the border, influenced Albanian poetry even in its structure.
Main theme of contemporary Albanian poetry was Ko-
sovo. There isn’t almost any Albanian poet that didn’t write
at least one poem about Kosovo, and there were even those
who wrote many books on this theme. Among these authors
I selected the poetry of Dritero Agolli about Kosovo, which
is very unique regarding this topic.
Meanwhile, as for prose, I should emphasize the study-
paper “Realizmi socialist dhe parodizimi i tij nè romandi
‘Rrathè ’ tè Martin Camajt ”(“Social realism and its parody’
in Martin Camaj’s novel Circles).
Camaj not only in practice, but also in his literary
works he rejected socialist realism in “theory”. In his novel
“Rrathè”(Circles) he criticized the method of socialist rea-

lism. At a time when in Albania the socialist realism was
proclaimed as the only creative method and eulogized by
official criticism, Martin Camaj highlighted the disadvanta-
ges of this method, and even he made parody out of it.
Also, there’s a paper about how not to write. As an
example I brought here Jusuf Buxhovi’s book of short stories
“Jeta lakuriq ” (Naked Life). Here, I have dealt with tenden-
cies in literature, and in this case the writer takes the position
of ideologist and the literature in the service of politics, as
occurs in the prose of this author especially during the first
years of this millennium and up to this day.
The first of the book closes with the study “. e
Ali Podrimjes nè syrin e kritikes (Ali Podrimja poetry
the eye of criticism) in which I dealt with writings about Pod-
rimja’s works and types of criticism, ranging from reviews,
introductions and studies etc.
In the second part of the book which is entitled “Rece-
nsione ”(Reviews) I dealt with reviews on books of poetry,
prose and literary criticism.
Reviews on books of poetry start with the review for
the book of poetry and other writings e bukur”
(Beautiful Pain), this is a book dedicated to Ali Podrimja
published after his death, then follow reviews about Arif
Bozaxhiu’s two books of poetry and reviews on Esad Me-
kuli’s, Enver Gjerqeku’s and Besim Bokshi’s books of po-
ems and so on.
And as for reviews about prose, I’ve dealt with Sulej-
man Krasniqi’s autobiographical novel (Auto-
biography), in which this well-known author reveals his dual
path — in life and in literature. Likewise, in this part of the
book is a review about Valdet Avdiu’s book of short stories
“ Lavirja nè pentagramin tim (The Whore in My Penta-

gram), this is an original and modem in our contemporary
literature, and his book is unique in our prose recent.
Then, in addition to this part there are short writings
about foreign literature, ranging from Dostoyevsky’s The
Double, M. Proust’s Swann’s Way, H. James’ Daisy Miller,
John Fante’s Ask the Dust, H. Pinter’s The Dwarfs and D.
Lessing’s The Fifth Child.
And as for reviews about literary criticism, in this book
I’ve dealt with two Arben Hoxha’s books, one is a book with
studies “ Letërsiasi vizion” {Literature as Vision) and the
other is about a study monograph “Poetika e së Koli-
qit”{Poetics of Koliqi’s prose), and a review about Mahmud
Hysa’s book “PjeterBogdani, si nuke kemi njohur” (As We
Did Not Know Him), in which the author brings new facts
about the life of Pjetër Bogdani, one the greatest writers of
old Albanian literature, then about Tonin Çobani’s book
“Pjetër Zarishi dhe Krijimii (Pjetër Zarishi
and Creation of Universe), on Arshi Pipa’s book “Montale
dhe Dante ”(Montale and Dante)·, on Ardian Marashi’s book
“Kamy— njeriu, mendimtari,ar thinker,
artist), in which the author writes about of one the most
exceptional figures of literature and philosophy in twentieth
century. This section is closed with writings about Resmije
Kryeziu’s and dhe Shefkije Islamaj’s books.
In the third part, “ Jubile” {Jubilee), there are two arti-
cles: the first one is about the forty anniversary of publik-
cation of Agim Vinca’s “Feniks” (Phoenix), the first book of
poems, and second article is about the fiftieth anniversary of
publication of Azem Shkreli’s novel i bardhë
(White Caravan). In the article about the 50th anniversary of
Azem Shkreli’s novel “Karvani i bardhë’’ (White Caravan),
I didn’t write for its ideo-aesthetic values but for its historical

importance that it had in Albanian literature, especially for
the prose that was developed in Kosovo after the Second
World War.
In conclusion, in this book I have treated various issues
and phenomena related to the contemporary Albanian litera-
ture poetry and prose, and literary criticism, for which I am
aware that I have not said the final word, but these writings
can be taken only as my modest contribution in this regard.
