Beschreibung: | Main description: The Machiavellian Moment is a classic study of the consequences for modern historical and social consciousness of the ideal of the classical republic revived by Machiavelli and other thinkers of Renaissance Italy. J.G.A. Pocock suggests that Machiavelli's prime emphasis was on the moment in which the republic confronts the problem of its own instability in time, and which he calls the "Machiavellian moment." After examining this problem in the thought of Machiavelli, Guicciardini, and Giannotti, Pocock turns to the revival of republican thought in Puritan England and in Revolutionary and Federalist America. He argues that the American Revolution can be considered the last great act of civic humanism of the Renaissance. He relates the origins of modern historicism to the clash between civic, Christian, and commercial values in the thought of the eighteenth century |

Princeton University Press 2003 1 Online-Ressource (640 S.) txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Main description: The Machiavellian Moment is a classic study of the consequences for modern historical and social consciousness of the ideal of the classical republic revived by Machiavelli and other thinkers of Renaissance Italy. He relates the origins of modern historicism to the clash between civic, Christian, and commercial values in the thought of the eighteenth century Machiavelli, Niccolò 1469-1527 (DE-588)118575775 gnd rswk-swf Giannotti, Donato 1492-1573 (DE-588)118975358 gnd rswk-swf Guicciardini, Francesco 1851-1915 (DE-588)129061719 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1490-1530 gnd rswk-swf Machiavellismus (DE-588)4168418-7 gnd rswk-swf Politische Philosophie (DE-588)4076226-9 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf Italien (DE-588)4027833-5 gnd rswk-swf Florenz (DE-588)4017581-9 gnd rswk-swf Italien (DE-588)4027833-5 g Politische Philosophie (DE-588)4076226-9 s Machiavellismus (DE-588)4168418-7 s Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g 1\p DE-604 Florenz (DE-588)4017581-9 g Geschichte 1490-1530 z 2\p DE-604 Machiavelli, Niccolò 1469-1527 (DE-588)118575775 p Guicciardini, Francesco 1851-1915 (DE-588)129061719 p Giannotti, Donato 1492-1573 (DE-588)118975358 p 3\p DE-604 https://doi.org/10.1515/9781400824625 Verlag Volltext http://www.degruyter.com/search?f_0=isbnissn&q_0=9781400824625&searchTitles=true Verlag Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
