Biographical note: Expanded Ph.D. dissertation (2003) under the supervision of Prof. John S. Kloppenborg, University of Toronto, Canada. Zeba A. Crook is now an assistant professor in the department of Classics and Religion at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada Main description: Combining classical, epigraphical, and biblical sources with social-scientific methodology, this monograph questions the way in which modern scholarship has tended to discuss ancient conversion. The author challenges long-held assumptions of psychological continuity between ancient and modern people, and offers in place of these assumptions a model founded on the categories the ancients used themselves. Graeco-Roman and Mediterranean religions and philosophies, including Hellenistic Judaism and Christianity, framed their religion in the language of patronage / benefaction and loyalty, and thus an understanding of ancient conversion must start there Main description: Der Autor nimmt die Diskussion der Konversion in der Antike neu auf und hinterfragt die bisher vorausgesetzte psychologische Kontinuität zwischen antikem und modernem Menschen. Im Unterschied dazu bietet er ein Modell, das sich an den Denkvoraussetzungen der Antike orientiert. In diesem Zusammenhang wird auch die "Bekehrung" des Paulus neu gedeutet Review text: "Crook has given us a rewarding study in ancient patronal relationships that is competent, interesting, and [...] undoubtedly correct."Carolyn Osiek in: Bryn Mawr Classical Review 2006.02.33 |

D.) Biographical note: Expanded Ph.D. dissertation (2003) under the supervision of Prof. In diesem Zusammenhang wird auch die "Bekehrung" des Paulus neu gedeutet Review text: "Crook has given us a rewarding study in ancient patronal relationships that is competent, interesting, and [...] undoubtedly correct."Carolyn Osiek in: Bryn Mawr Classical Review 2006.02.33 Dissertationsschrift--University of Toronto, 2003 Paul the Apostle, Saint Conversion Damaskuserlebnis (DE-588)4194524-4 gnd rswk-swf Sozialgeschichte gnd rswk-swf Christentum Gott Conversion Conversion Christianity God Worship and love Patron and client Greece Patron and client Rome Psychology and religion Konversion Religion (DE-588)4127377-1 gnd rswk-swf Sozialgeschichtliche Exegese (DE-588)4200241-2 gnd rswk-swf Griechenland Rom Römisches Reich (DE-588)4076778-4 gnd rswk-swf Griechenland Altertum (DE-588)4093976-5 gnd rswk-swf Electronic books (DE-588)4113937-9 Hochschulschrift gnd-content Griechenland Altertum (DE-588)4093976-5 g Konversion Religion (DE-588)4127377-1 s Sozialgeschichte z 1\p DE-604 Römisches Reich (DE-588)4076778-4 g 2\p DE-604 Damaskuserlebnis (DE-588)4194524-4 u Sozialgeschichtliche Exegese (DE-588)4200241-2 s 3\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-3-11-018265-1 http://www.degruyter.com/search?f_0=isbnissn&q_0=9783110915600&searchTitles=true Verlag Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
