Zusammenfassung:Examining the image of Egypt as it was portrayed in German travelogues, this study aims to illuminate the history of Germany's reception of Egypt. It also seeks to make a contribution to research on travel literature and foreignness. Through interpretations of selected sources, it reveals the shift that occurred in perceptions of Egypt, which were mutually shaped by Egyptomania to Orientalism. Ultimately, it proposes an Orientalism of the early modern era as a discourse of powerlessness alongside Edward Said's hegemonic Orientalism
