KOSOVA’S SETTLEMENTS - MALISHEVA 19
Subjects of this book are settlements in the territory of
Malisheva municipality viewed from a geographic, historic, demogra-
phic, social perspective. In order to elaborate this book the author, has
exploited a wide-ranging literature, archived sources, statistical records,
as well as doing personal exploration on the ground.
The author elaborates this book by separating it, into several
historical-geographical entireties, such as: geographic position, size,
relief, climate, territorial eaters, flora fauna; historical past beginning
from the ancient times, first Illyrian inhabitants up to the last war of the
Serb aggressor in the year 1998/1999; socio-economic development;
administrative territorial division of this territory; population
settlements.
The main chapter is dedicated to 45 settlements of this munici-
pality. This chapter elaborates essential characteristics of the
settlement, including: geographic position, quarters families,
archeological vestiges that attest to antiquity, the most characteristic
micro - toponymy, archived records which point-out the respective
settlement, especially medieval decrees, ottoman records, Turkish
official year books etc. Statistical figure records of inhabitants based on
registration of population, narrative records etc; most important events
that have occurred in that settlement, especially killing of inhabitants,
ruin of settlements; movement of the population, migration from their
settlement especially to Turkey and Albania; colonization of those
settlements with Serb and Montenegro elements in the period in-
between two world wars; records on the latest war of the Serb
aggressor during the year 1998-1999, Kosova’s Liberation Army
struggle, ruin of the settlements, killings, banishment of the population
from their country, population ‘s return to the place of birth etc.
It should be emphasized that the Malisheva’s municipality
stretches in the western side of Kosova, or in the eastern side of

Dugagjini valley, and is located between Kosova’s main centres
(cities), in an approximately equal distance.
Municipality of Malisheva extents in an area of 306,3 km՜.
Malisheva is abutted: in the North with the municipalities of Klina
Drenas/Gllogovc, in the east with the municipality of Lipjan and
Theranda/Suhareka, in the south with the municipalities of Theranda/
Suhareka and Rahovec, and in the west with the municipality of
Rahovec and Klina. Territory of Malisheva’s municipality belongs to
the macro-region known as LlapushS, this is a lowland which
encompasses even several villages of other municipalities, such as
Drenas/Gllogovc, Klina Rahovec. Ancient Illyrian population used
to live in this region, respectively the Dardan tribe, predecessors of the
Albanian population. While in order to change Kosova’s national
structure, this region included were colonized eith the Slavic elements
brought from various regions of the Yugoslav kingdom and even with
the population eho lived outside this kingdom. Newcomers were
chiefly settled in the territory of Anadrinia, they were known as optants
of Slavic elements brought from Albania. From the economic point of
view this was one of the most underdeveloped regions in the country.
Industrial complexes were non-existent. Viniculture is the main branch
of agriculture in the recent years. During the last war of the Serb
aggressor, in the year 1998-1999 this region, just as other regions of
Kosova suffered a great deal, ruin of dwelling places, killings, violence
and terror. Malisheva’s municipality is the first work written about
Kosova’s settlements. Therefore, future researchers and readers alike
have the opportunity for the first time to be enlightened with the
historical past of respective settlements, which will then serve as a
bedrock for further research in expansion of knowledge not only of
Malisheva’s municipality settlements, but of Kosova as a whole which
are published and will continue to be published as special editions.
