SUMMARY
Region of Gjilan, respectively the territory of Gjilan munici-
pality is a geographic space, in which the main geographical element is
made by Morava river stream. That separates Novabwrda and Gollak
hillock valley from the area of Karadak, in south. The territory of this
municipality, have a surface of 515 km2, in which are expanded 64
residences/dwellings.
Appropriate conditions for life, natural resources, favorite clime
etc, have determined that the municipality of Gjilan to be inhabited
form ancient times and that created this place in lots of residences/
dwellings. Since these times, the lif started to develop sometime with
strong and sometimes with weak intensity, the human cultures started
to develop. Cultural material relics that are developed long time ago are
witnesses for their existence.
This terrtory in life development process during the past history
was integral part of Illyrian-Albanian ancestgors. With invasions,
migrations, huge or sporadic crams of different populations during the
history influenced that the land trunk of Illyrians got strangulated. The
structure of the population starts to change with this in these territories,
especially with the infiltration of slaves from the north.
Many dwellings during the past, becaue of the wars, diseases,
fires, eathquakes etc..., were destroyed or deserted, therefore with the
creation of condtions in these dwellings or somewhere close to these
dwellings new buildings were made.
Every invader tha came have changed toponymies, microto-
ponymics, but also patgronymic, by appropriating to their own
language through particles and also by translating them into their own
language Nowadays we have dwellings names in many languages, in
invaders language and in local language. In this way it was acted most
of the time, tha with the arrival of slaves, in the first phase they adapted
dwellings names, and then they translated them into a Serbian
language, meanwhile in last century they made the arbitrary changes.
Studying objects of this book are the dwellings of Gjilan
Municipalty from historical, geographical, demographical aspect etc...
Shortly mentioning, there are some characteristics that occurred in

dwellings, by including geographical position, extension, families or
districts, some more characteristic microtoponimics, archeological
findings, archival and historical resources, statistical data, population
displacement out of their county, destructions, murdering etc..., in
dwellings unntil 1999. The origin of inhabitants was not presented,,
their dsplacement etc..., because for thies displacement etc..., because
for this it is required a complex studying, I think that the new
generations have to do it, based on these data and other data too.
Except historical and archival resources, research work o the
field is necessary, because only in this way the new resource data can
be gathered form life and from the poulation words about the their past
and about the current situation.
This volume will be published on the level of monographic
studying of dwellings in Kosova.
Research methods tha I have chosen first was the researching of
archival and literacy documents that shows data about the dwellings,
data gotten from the questionnaires and data from Municipal Council
Authorities.
Today, the network of Gjilan Municipality dwellings is made by
Gjilan regional and muniipal adminstrative centers, local centers,
districts and home groups.
In municipality of Gjilan, most of the dwellings are cumulative
field type, some of them near mountains, also comulative hillock types,
a number of separated hillocksmountains dwelling in disricts etc...
