With global population expected to reach nine billion by 2050, our capacity to provide
enough food, water and energy relies on our understanding and management of the
complex interdependencies in the climate-energy-water nexus. This book presents a
comprehensive and up-to-date analysis of the interdependencies between these sectors and the
knock-on consequences of those interactions for other sectors, such as food production and bio-
diversity conservation.

This book;
• Extends our existing technical knowledge of the links between the climate, energy and water
sectors, giving the reader access to the most up-to-date and comprehensive analysis
ever written.
• Explores the range of governance mechanisms available to better account for, and integrate,
the climate-energy-water nexus in policy and investment decisions. This allows the reader to
go beyond describing problems to gain an understanding of the numerous policy interventions
that can be used to better manage the trade-offs between the three sectors, including economic
instruments, regulation and standards, educational tools and integrated decision-support
tools for decision making.
• Identifies and explores some of the knock-on consequences of dynamics in the climate-energy-
water nexus for other sectors, most notably biodiversity conservation and food production.
• Distils the wealth of knowledge in the book to identify where important win-win opportuni-
ties can be seized in the short term, but also where gaps in our understanding remain and
demand attention.
The interdisciplinary nature of the book across the three sectors of climate, energy and water
