ABSTRACT
The emblematic
writer Ismail
Kadaré
within the Albanian
literary world is known as the most affirming and read one, while in
Europe and worldwide he is recognized as one of the exponents of
contemporary literature. Translated in more than forty world
languages, he configures in the literary hierarchy as one of the most
prominent novelists and essayists.
Artistic acts of this writer, particularly the novels, have been
subject of study to a large number of domestic and foreign
researchers. Commentary and studies' on
Kadaré'
s
literature are
among various ones, ranging from those dealing with the
phenomenon
Kadaré
as the author who created a literature differently
from the other contemporary Albanian writers, that is to say a
literature that at any feature of its own was not a soc-realistic one, to
those which in heuristic and other ways have treated variety of
aspects of quality quantum of his literature.
This study endeavors to illuminate a different dimension, the
one of edifice (ascension) and the cult of edifice at
Kadaré'
s
novelistic structures, and the confirmative dimension of human life at
temporally and contemporarily.
It's well-known that this author, in a good part of his
narration
emplaces
the edifice on the spotlight. Such are the novels:
"The Three-Arches bridge
",
"The Castle", "The Palace of
Dreams",
"
The Pyramid", etc., but also shorter structures such as
the famous story: "The Great Wall", the stories: "The Chinese
Wall", "The Church of Saint Sophia", etc
.
In the first chapter is treated the appearance of edifice and
the cult
oí
edifice in the novel "The Castle". In this novel the cult of
edifice of the castle subsists among the historical and symbolical
substance of the resistance of Albanians during certain period of
time (the period of the Ottoman Empire run on Albanian lands after
the return of Scanderbeg in Albania).
In the second chapter is considered the cult of bridge's
edifice in the novel "The Three-Arched Bridge*'. In this novel, the
cult of edifice has a lining surface in the midst of mythological and
historical substance and the dimension of Albanian collective dismay
and suggestion, during scheming and re-revelation period of
conditions and circumstances from the Ottoman Empire, prior to its
expansion to Albanian lands in the Balkans.
The third chapter consists of introspection of the cult of
edifice in Kadare's emblematic novel titled "The Palace of
Dreams". In this novel; the edifice has an outlining which
sometimes consents with the parallel of cult and sometimes with the
one of anti-cult, ranged thematically-artistically between the surface
of totalitarian society and the authentic human life under the
dictatorship.
In the fourth chapter is dealt with the cult of edifice in the
novel "The Pyramid". The edifice, in this novel too, contiguous
with the parallels of cult and anti-cult, and has an analogical-
allegoric extension on mythological-historical substance. This novel
is dominated by an intense molding of deep philosophical thought
and a very noteworthy metaphysics.
The fifth chapter is the concluding chapter where the head-
story of Ismail
Kadaré
"The Great Wall" is elaborated, but also
some other Kadare's works in prose, yet in a more generalized
analytical level-
In all chapters, the authors'
s
above works, realized in
artistic prose, have been analyzed by reviewing them from a
foregone thematic angel, and the continuous care of implementing
recognized theories for analyzing and diffraction of the literary text.
A special attention is dedicated in studying the Kadare-an affinity in
pivoting the narration of edifice and its cult, equal attention has been
devoted to study the Kadare-an inclination to
infíltrate
deep into the
dimension of problems that the authentic human had and still has
with social systems, particularly with dictatorships. Many other
dimensions of authentic human life of Kadare's prose have been
taken into consideration. |
