THE GLOBAL I
IMPAIRMENT AND DISABILITY
Disability is of central concern to
фе
developing world bur has largely been
underrepresented in global debates, discourses
.ind
negotiations. Similarly,
disability studies has overlooked both the theorists and the social experience of rhs
global South, and rhere has been a one-way transfer or ideas and knowledge from
the North

the South in this field.
This volume seeks to redress these processes of scholarly colonialism by drawing
together a diverse set of understandings, theorising and experiences. The chapters
situate disability within the Southern context and support the work
oí
Southern
disabled scholars and activists seeking to
décolonise
Southern experiences,
knowledge and absences in the field while
simultaneo
osly
attempting to make an
intervention into Northern able-bodied global discourses, practices and politics.

Karen Soldatic is the Director of leaching at the Centre for Social Impact,

of New South Wales, Australia. Karen is an international disability
scholar who has extensive
