| adam_text | A BRIEF ENGLISH SUMMARY
This volume called Language and Lexis. Selected Linguistic Studies is a collection of
45 contributions of the author spanning the past 50 years, published in many places both in
Czech and English that are not easily to be found now and may be of some interest for some
people and students. Although the book covers several subfields, some that have been given
more and separate attention, usually as another book, such as Phraseology, Word Formation,
General Linguistics and Corpus Linguistics, are hardly covered here. Thus, main topics in-
cluded are lexicological, semiotical and sociolinguistic fields as well as that of the modem
history of linguistics and some of its classics, related to my translations of F. de Saussure and
L. Hjelmslev and my interest in the history of the Prague School.
The studies presented here are concerned, next to a dominant attention given to the Czech
language, with a number of other languages, though many contributions are rather theoretical
and open general issues that are still discussed today. Many contributions draw on the fact that
a new large corpus of the Czech language has appeared, due the unprecedented novel situation
offering new insight in the syntagmatic aspects of the language (the Author having been in
charge of its establishment for many years).
