Zusammenfassung: | The Master of Claude de France was an illuminator active in the French city of Tours during the first two decades of the sixteenth century. He is named after two jewel-like manuscripts he painted for Queen Claude de France (1499-1524), first wife of King François I: a tiny Book of Hours (today owned by Heribert Tenschert) and an even tinier Prayer Book (today owned by the Morgan Library & Museum). Although we find traces of him possibly as early as 1498, he does not emerge as an independent artist until around 1508. He flourished in the second decade of the century -- when he illuminated the majority of his work, including the two codices for the queen -- and disappeared shortly after 1520. All told, his actual career lasted only a short dozen years. In that brief span, however, he created some of the most mesmerizing illuminations in France during the last flowering of the handwritten and hand-painted book. Published on the occasion of the Morgan Library & Museums exhibition Miracles in Miniature: The Art of the Master of Claude de France, this is the first major study on the artists oeuvre since Charles Sterlings 1975 book that gave the illuminator his name. The study offers a survey of the painters roots and training, his career, and his denouement. Francisco Trujillos study of the palettes of the Claude Master and of the two artists who trained or influenced him, Jean Bourdichon and Jean Poyer, offers fascinating scientific parallels to Roger Wiecks stylistic analysis. Including, in a final chapter, all the known works by the Claude Master and his followers, Miracles in Miniature will be the starting point for all future studies of the artist. 0Exhibition: The Morgan Library and Museum, NYC, USA (30.5.-14.9.2014) |

0Exhibition: The Morgan Library and Museum, NYC, USA (30.5.-14.9.2014) Maître de Claude, active 1517 Exhibitions Maître de Claude de France (DE-588)105887747X gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1500-1600 Geschichte 1500-1520 gnd rswk-swf Illumination of books and manuscripts, French France Tours 16th century Exhibitions Illumination of books and manuscripts, Renaissance France Tours Exhibitions Buchmalerei (DE-588)4008650-1 gnd rswk-swf Frankreich Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 gnd rswk-swf Tours (DE-588)4060530-9 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4135467-9 Ausstellungskatalog The Morgan Library & Museum 30.05.2014-14.09.2014 New York, NY gnd-content Maître de Claude de France (DE-588)105887747X p DE-604 Tours (DE-588)4060530-9 g Buchmalerei (DE-588)4008650-1 s Geschichte 1500-1520 z Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 g Wieck, Roger S. 1952- Sonstige (DE-588)1043286675 oth Maître de Claude de France Sonstige (DE-588)105887747X oth The Morgan Library & Museum Sonstige (DE-588)10156282-2 oth LoC Fremddatenuebernahme application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=027538550&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis |
