Beschreibung: | Title from resource description page (viewed Mar. 12, 2014) The third and last programme in the series explains how we share the harvest of the sea among us. To start with, the ocean was open to all, but when overfishing became a problem and stocks were in danger of being wiped out, the right to unrestricted fishing evolved into a bitterly fought free-for-all. Together with ama divers in Japan we dive for molluscs - abalones - and see how the cooperative, of which the women are members, divides their catches among them. Together with the Norwegian Coastguard we board Russian trawlers; we participate in the purchase of perpetual fishing rights in Icelandic waters; and we learn how Kenyan fishermen survive on the bones that are left after the flesh of the fish they catch has been exported to Europe. More, we see how the people of Mitiaro have shared their catches among themselves, to the benefit of all |
