Lambaréné, ville du Gabon. Ils en élucident la pertinence pour caractériser
son humanisme ou y trahissent ses faiblesses pour en dénoncer l'idéologie
coloniale. C'est donc une lecture critique à laquelle se sont soumis les
auteurs, d'autant plus que les intellectuels gabonais ne s'étaient pas,
jusqu'alors, intéressés à évaluer l'action d'Albert
Schweitzer
Un long silence
a été en effet observé auprès de la classe intellectuelle sur son uvre.
La diversité d'angles indique l'objectivité face à l'histoire. Ont ainsi été
prises en considération les perspectives historique, littéraire, philosophique
et sociologique. La critique morale est certes sans cesse manifeste, mais
elle ne constitue pas l'essentiel du travail. Il s'agit davantage d'écrire une
histoire critique au sujet d'une uvre humanitaire dont l'humanisme
est parfois sujet à caution. On lui soupçonnait une négation d'un travail
vanté par l'Occident. Négation qui justifie le titre du présent ouvrage,
