ADVANCES IN RACE AND ETHNICITY IN EDUCATION
African American Male

Informing Research, Policy, and Practice
edited by James L. Moore HI
·
Chance W. Lewis
African American Male Students in PreK-
12
SchooL·: Informing Research, Policy, and Practice,
presents a comprehensive viewpoint on PreK-
12
schooling for African American males.
Including theoretical, conceptual, and research based chapters, this edited volume
offers readers compelling evidence of the educational challenges and successes for
this student population. Each chapter provides a rich perspective of the educational
and social experiences of African American males. Additionally, each chapter includes
strong implications for education research, practice, and policy, as well as concrete
recommendations for important stakeholders, such as educators, school counselors,
parents, etc. Collectively, the contributors communicate throughout the edited volume
that educational change is needed and that educational success is attainable tor African
American males. It is intended that the edited volume will help inform education research,
practice, and policy as they relate to African American males. Equally important, it is
envisioned that the readers will develop a greater interest in the education of African
American males.
Drs.
fames L. Moore III and Chance IV
!
Lewis have done a mighty and meaningful thing for
the field of black male achievement, and our country as a whole, with publishing African
American Males in PreK-
12
Schoob: Informing Research, Policy, and Practice. They have
accomplished the invaluable feat of organizing some of the nations most brilliant minds
to deliver a robust body of sound research and science which should be used to inform the
educational, programmatic, and policy vision of what it means to even the playing field tor
black boys growing up in America. If we truly intend to weave a thread of racial equity within
the current education reform debate,
Drs.
Moore and Lewis present a poignant and, at times
piercing, path pointing us all toward academic success for African American males.
