Summary
The performance of Polish musical songs
with the piano and chamber ensemble accompaniment
as a form of popularization of the genre
While researching the topic of the Polish musical it is
definiteli;
advi¬
sable to popularize the form itself. Thus, the main purpose of this publica¬
tion is to introduce and spread the domestic musical achievements through
the performance of Polish musical songs with the accompaniment of the
piano and a chamber ensemble .
Most of the available scientific publications present Polish musical
from the perspective of historical transformations or detailed libretto
analyses, ignoring at the same time an important issue of the rank of
the music layer of a stage work.
The research material for the analysis consists of eleven musical
compositions from Polish musicals created between
1969
and
2012.
They vary considerably in respect of the topics and musical design. To
present the range of topics of the shows, the descriptions of chosen
musicals« librettos have been included. The analyzed literary content
of the shows has been grouped according to the following criteria:
romantic, political, religious, social and inspired by other literary works.
To gather more detailed knowledge of the arrangement solutions
in earlier Polish musicals an analysis of five original scores of chosen
songs has been done. In three cases these are scores of the songs „To

all perfor¬
med by me and recorded on a CD.
The chosen repertoire is varied in respect of the topics and themes
and also the times of preview performances. The goal of this juxtapo-

is to present the stylistic and arrangement similarities. Eight out
of eleven songs are accompanied by
Krzysztof Jaszczak
on the piano.
Three songs were enriched by the sound of the cello, guitar and accor¬
dion. With the consent of the composer

the musical
„Noc w środku dnia
( Night
in the Middle of the Day ) uses the original course of the accompaniment
of the show recorded on a CD. Making the piano the fundamental accom¬
paniment element was deliberate since frequently it happens that the
orchestra instrumentation is so complex that it may interfere with the
literary and musical perception of the composition. It may also be a useful
solution for popularizing particular songs and whole musicals.
The choice of the repertoire is supposed to present the changes in
certain aspects, i.e. formal structure of particular compositions, melo¬
dic and rhythmic structure, the course of the piano accompaniment,
analysis of the scores of chosen songs. The materials used in this publi¬
cation mostly come from libraries and archives of Polish musical the¬
atres.
As for the possibility of popularization of the Polish musical it seems
important to consider the authors» opinions. This aspect is presented
in the form of an interview with two contemporary composers and ar¬
rangers.
In the chapter Graphic visualization of the song as a solo element
filling the music body of a musical work some graphs referring to the
formal structure of seven musical songs and three opera arias have been
presented. They point out the similarities in the structure of solo com¬
positions in both music forms.
