Zusammenfassung: | Since his rediscovery by Alwin Plantinga in the 1970s Molinism concerning the possibility of counterfactuals of freedom is one of the main issues of contemporary analytic philosophy of religion. Albeit that fact, Luis de Molina (1535-1600) still remains one of most influential and most unknown authors of late scholasticism and early modern philosophy. The papers collected in this volume treat the whole range of issues posed by his metaphysics as they are exposed in his revolutionary "Concordia" and by his practical philosophy esp. of law and economics in his groundbreaking work on 'De Justitia et Jure' as well as Molina's historical commitments and his influences on philosophy. So, the Companion offers the first comprehensive and thorough overview of Molina's thought |

This handbook examines the main works, tradition and reception of Luis
de
Molina
(1535TĆOO),
one of the most brilliant and most important
authors of Spanish Scholasticism. His reflections on human freedom and
God s foreknowledge initiated a theological movement called Molinism .
Although his second magnum opus, the six volumes of
De
iustitia
et
hire
is much less well-known, it contains important theoretical developments
such as the re-emphasis on subjective law, according to Joseph
HöíFner
the most comprehensive treatment of slavery of his time, and a definitively
liberal approach to economy. The influence of Molina s thought on the
history of philosophy cannot be underestimated since there is not only
a Molinistic movement, but also a significant impact of Molina s terms
on the philosophy of Leibniz and Kant. This volume characterizes Molina
for his relevance to the development of modern concepts and theories and
provides a long-needed philosophical introduction to Molina s
Concórdia
and to essential parts of
De
iustitia
et
hire, which takes into account both the
systematic problems and the most important historic issues as well.
