Applications of nanophotonics are fueling significant innovations in areas
ranging from electronics, microcomputing, and biotechnology to medicine,
consumer supplies, aerospace, and energy production. As progress in
nanoscale science and engineering leads to the continued development of
advanced materials and new devices, improved methods of modeling and
simulation are required to achieve a more robust quantitative understanding
of matter at the nanoscale. Computational Nanophotonics: Modeling and
Applications offers expert insights into the current and emerging methods,
opportunities, and challenges associated with the computational techniques
in nanoscale research.
The book is written by, and for. those working in the interdisciplinary fields
involved in nanophotonics, including engineering, physics, chemistry, biology,
and medicine. An introduction to computational methods in nanophotonics.
it covers a broad spectrum of technical information, research ideas, and
practical knowiedge. It also takes a closer look at the theory and modeling of
two important nanoscaie systems: waveguide structure and semiconductor
nanowires. Throughout, the book identifies major advances and recent
trends, and describes a wide variety of applications of micro- and nanoscale
modeling systems in medicine, dentistry, and the military.
The design and modeling of efficient nanophotonics systems require in-
depth knowledge of the underlying physical and engineering principles.
as well as the ability to use computational methods effectively. This book
introduces key concepts in a way that is accessible to newcomers in the
field. Building to more advanced topics, it also explores the challenges
