PREFACE
Variously seen as a mystery, an eyesore, a historical curiosity, and even a moral
transgression (at one point), radar and radio pylons have dominated the eastern
edge of Great Bromley, Essex, since Neville Chamberlain s time. Their wartime
role was significant, though in fact they predated the war and stood long
afterwards. Local people constantly saw them, and travellers to and from the
Continent passed within a mile of them. Yet, partly because so many of the
relevant facts were an official secret, no one tried to tell their story. I hope this
booklet fills the historical gap.
