SUMMARY
This book is dedicated to analysis of history of ethopolitical development
of Dasht-i Qipchaq in IX-XIII centuries. Traditional views on Dasht-i
Qipchaq history were reconsidered. Author supposes that qipchaqian
collaborationism caused success of Mogolian troops. In this study main
factors and course of events of Mongolian campaigns in West-Eurasian
steps are analyzed. Ethnic composition and political structure of Dasht-i
Qipchaq were specified. Also causes, backgrounds, and consequences
cuman-qipchaqian migrations were discovered. There were enlightened
main stages of the Mongolian conquest to Dasht-i Qipchak: Western
Campaign and Great Western Campaign.
In the historiography two hypothesis about turkic and protomongolian
ethnic identity of Kimaks are common. The author believes that kimak is
not ethnonym but politonim, that meant belonging of the tribes to Kimak
Khaganate. The main tribe in khaganate had the name yemek. Qay and Qun
are not the tribes of Kimaks. It is possible to identify the Osinkino component
of Basandaysk archaeological culture with qay. Qay is
protomongols
forced to migrate to the West under the pressure of the Khitan. Qun tribe
were
hun ( Yabaqu
from study of Makhmud al-Kashgari).
Relations of confederation of Yemeks headed a clan olberlig (ilbari) were
especially tight. Qipchaqs supported naymans and merqits during recent
war the Mongols. During pre-mongolian era Qypchaqs had conflicts with
Volgo-Bulgaria
and Saqsin and were allies of Vladimir-Suzdal Principality.
Qangli of Eastern
Turkistan
were homagers of Qarakhanid s and Qaraqitay s
(Xi
Liao). Qangli of Sub-Aral area were strongly integrated in Choresmian
society and were opponents ilbari in struggle for power in Choresmian
sultanate.
Qipchaqian conquest of the Northern Caucasus can be dated 40-ies
of the XI century. During the resettlement of people of
Äträk
to Georgia,
Donetsk Qipchaks experienced resistance of group of local qipchaqs
(so-called Qivchaqni Darubendalesani ). Due to this migration lands of
Sharukanids subjects shifted by Don, and some Donetsk Qipchaqs moved
to stepps of Kuban and Manych bay. The area taken over by Shukranids
included Eastern Azov Sea littoral and basin of Kuban. Significant role
in the political history of the Caucasus played union of the Qivchaqni
Darubendalesani . They were famous for the attacks on the possessions of
Shyrvanshah and feud with Donetsk Qipchaq .
The researcher analyzed the tribal and clan structure of qypchaqian
chiefdoms Lower Dnieper. Borcsol are Burchevichi (Burj-ogh), a tribe

which headed left-wing of the not wild-Polovtsian .
Olás
are Ulashevichi
(Ulash-ogli), the tribe, which was a vassal tribe burj-ogli. Of non-wild
polovsty only i-ogli had not migrated to Hungary. It-ogli clan headed
urusoba. It-ogli can be identified as chiefdom of Polovtsy of Lukomorie .
Other tribes mentioned in Hungarian documents had not roamed in the Lower
Dnieper, lloncsuk is eltukove, a clan of dynasty Sharukanids.
Köncsög
may
associate with the tribe kunun.
Csertán
is a tribe Jortan.
Kór
are Kolobichi
(Kalabaogly).
Durut
were seventh qypchaq tribe that migrated to Hungary,
but it is not mentioned in the list of tribes because of the short stay of the
tribe in this country.
Cumans and Qipchaqs first came on the borders of Hungary in the 80 s
of the Xf centuty, and the first of their campaigns against the Hungarians
can be dated
1091.
Cuni , who made raids in
1068
and
1071
are
Besenyő
(Pechenegs) and Oghuz, but not qipchaqs. Black Cumania of Hungarian
chronicles are the lands of Berehany and
Bujak.
Black Cumans are
Besenyő
(Pechenegs) and Oguz, who roamed this region and were dependent
of Qipchaqs and Cumans. Lands of Jonah can be located in
Bujak. Saronius
had to nomads of the Berehany steppe. Lands at the lower Dniester and Bug
belonged to chief Kotyan. Asenids descended from Byzantine proniars.
Cumans actively contacted with the Bulgarian elite and christianized under
their influence.
The war between the
mongols
and qipchaqs started
1205
when Inal-
Khan hide merqits. The first campaign that Subedey-Bahatur made
to Dasht-i Qipchaq, ended with the victory over qipchaqs and merkits.
The conquest of big part of the eastern half of the Dasht-i Qipchaq was
completed in
1219-1221.
Ilbari who would not submit to the Mongols
migrated northward to the borders of the Volga Bulgaria, and started
antimongolian coalition, which led to a successful outcome for the
Bulgars
in campaigns in
1223
and
1232.
The third conquest took place in
1223
and was related to return of Mongolian troops from Eastern Europe. Clash
of the Mongols with Volga Bulgaria was caused by help of Bulgarians to
defeated Qipchaqs-Eltukove and Qangli.
Analysis of the current source base and historiography suggests that
contemporaries of the events did not pursue the goal of lighting actions of
qipchaqs in
Kalka
battle. Their knowledge is fragmentary. But we are forced
to do reconstruction of events based on hypotheses. It can be assumed
that several leaders of qipchaqs took part in
Kalka
battle, whose names
are unknown to us. Number of soldiers who took part in the battle is also
unknown. Information about the large number of
Rus
in the European-latin-
speaking and Slavic sources hardly meet the historical realities. Data of the

later chroniclers consist details that are not seen in the chronicles of XHI-XIV
centuries. And that allows to characterize them as an annalistic insertions.
The data of the author of the First Novgorod Chronicle is not politically
objective and servees as an excuse of Rurikids in regards to their defeat in
the battle. We assume that the defeat in
Kalka
battle was a consequence of
non-coordinated actions of princes. Regarding the dating of the battle we
support the hypothesis of May
31, 1223,
as a time
orbatile,
as the Greek
Synaxarion data indicatees the appearance of the Mongols in the Crimea
in early
1223.
And as we know from the data of Ibn al-Athir, output of the
Mongols on the coast occurred even before the battle.
Great Western conquest can be dated
1236-1242.
This campaign started
with victory of Subedey-bagatur over Bachman. It is the author s opinion
that Mongols were at war with Bachman in
1237
in Middle Volga. Qipchaqs
of Naddnipryanschina and
Donschina
regions were defeated
1238,
and
Crimean qipchaqs were beaten in
1239.
Migration of qipchaqs and cumans
took place at the same time in
1237-1239
in the direction of Hungary and
Bulgaria. Ivan
Asen
II didn t attack Qipchaqs, but was a victim of their
betrayal and attack. Mongol conquest of Saqsin occurred in
1237.
Alans
were not allies of Qipchaqs in
1222.
Defeat in
Kalka
battle was not caused
by escape of Qipchaqs, but
incoordination
of actions of Russian and
Qipchaqian troops. This campaign started with victory of Subedey-bagatur
over Bachman. Bachman was killed during campaign in midlle Volga region
in
1237.
Author dates Mongolian conquest of North-West Caucasus and
Donschyna steppelands
1237-1239,
the same time when military campaign
of Chingizid s against alans and adyge took place. Finally Mongols
defeated qipchaq near Sudak on Tatqara hill in
1239.
Conquest of Crimea
stepps was the final stage in Chingizid s campaign in Eastern European
stepps. During
1237-1239
qipchaks moved to Hungarian ad Bulgaria.
Main number of nomads crossed Carpathians and Dunay river in
1239,
when Mongolians came to the coast of the Black Sea. In
1239
Kotyan s
people were in
Hungária,
but they had to move to Balkans in only two
years. Author supposes that Ibn Tahriberdi confused chronology of events
and united into one information about two different events (migrations of
qipchaqs to Bulgaria and to Hungary).
