SUMMARY
Areas with unique
ecologic,
landscape and esthetic values, as well as authentic
ecosystems and undisturbed nature were formed in
Banat
thanks to its specific natural
conditions. In order to preserve this state, the protection of these areas has been initiated.
They were classified in different categories of protected natural assets and a protector
was assigned to them. Recently, these objects have become extremely interesting to
tourists, considering the fact that the areas with protected natural characteristics have
covered less and less territory during intensive urbanization and industrialization, and
tourism is an activity based on exactly these preserved natural values.
Protected natural assets of
Banat,
as important elements of natural inheritance of
Vojvodina
and Serbia, have different tourist potentials. Some of them are familiar to
large number of tourists and they have certain tourist tradition (Special Nature Reserves:
Vršačke
planine,
Delibatska
peščara
and
Stari Begej
-
Carska bara).
On the other hand,
there are some protected natural goods which are insufficiently presented to tourists and
tourism in them is only in the initial phase of the development. Primary, we think of
Special Nature Reserves
Slano kopovo
and
Pašnjaci velike droplje
and Nature Park
Ponjavica. It is emphasized that these objects do not have as much attractive motifs as
the previously mentioned ones, but with proper organization and conception of good
programs, certain activities could be realized. Natural monuments and Memorial Natural
Monuments in
Banat
are the least familiar to tourists. The reason for this is partly
because of insufficient interest of the authorities, responsible for the management of
goods, and partly because of true absence of attractive motifs in them.
Numerous natural and anthropogenic tourist values, which characterize protected
objects, enabled the development of several types of tourism: ecotourism, day-tourism-
recreation, excursion, hunting, manifestation, etc. Recreational forms of tourist activities
are mostly present although the protected objects, thanks to their status, are predicted for
the development of other forms of tourism which are based on
ecologie
principles.
Recently, the development of ecotourism has been emphasized as a part of the concept
of sustainable development. Ecotourism has to draw attention to the interdependence
between the protected nature and tourism as a human activity. It is gravitated towards
the respect of the principles of protection which needs to be carried out on these areas,
and then to organization of visits which will not endanger natural characteristics. The
activities of ecotourism are temporarily mainly present in the initial forms of the
development, with the tendency towards improvement. Therefore, in some objects they
have already represented important factor of tourist offer (for example in
Carska
bara).
The organization of tourist movement, which will put proper relationship towards
natural values on the first place, is necessary as it became evident that recent mass visits
have had negative impact on nature of protected goods. Hence, tourism has become a
factor of degradation of environment. The state of the most frequently visited localities

of some protected objects has warned us on this condition. Because of the high risk
imposed to their ecosystems, it was suggested that these objects should be excluded from
the zone of protection Therefore, ecotourism has the best perspective for the
development in the scope of protected objects, and its organization should contribute to
the improvement of balance between the protection
ornature
and the use of these goods
by visitors.
Tourist valorization of objects has shown that the protected assets which are the
most familiar to tourists have the biggest general tourist value:
Vršačke planine,
Delibatska
peščara
and
Stari Begej
-
Carska
bara.
Thanks to their basic motifs, which
were assessed with the highest marks, these objects have been visited by tourists for a
long period. Other protected goods in
Banat
have lower tourist value, and tourism in
them is in the initial phase of the development. Although they possess motifs which can
attract visitors, they are less attractive in comparison to the previous three.
In order to use the existing potentials, it is necessary to regard some directions for
future development of protected goods as tourist destinations. It is primary thought of the
protection inside these goods, which should be a precondition for any further use, and
then of dividing into zones of tourist activities, which would be in accordance with the
proclaimed zones per levels of protection. Also, it is necessary to carry out certain
monitoring of tourism, in other words, to find methods which will establish the influence
of tourism on the protected objects so that it could be assured that this activity does not
degrade natural values. It is essential to define protectors for the aforementioned objects,
since these protectors still have not been assigned for certain categories. As it has been
seen from the practice, the institutions and companies responsible for management of the
protected goods sometimes inadequately do their job, so it is necessary to assign
protectors whose interests will be in accordance with proper management of the
protected goods. The emphasis should also be put on securing means for management of
natural goods through the realization of projects connected to the protection and
sustainable development. It is desirable to involve local community in such projects as
an important factor of future sustainable development of wide area. The population who
lives in the surroundings of the protected goods in
Banat
is only partly familiar with
values and categories that these goods belong to.
Certain changes should also be made even when the organization of future tourist
activities is in question. Primary, we think of improvement of tourist offer by extending
current programs for visitors and creating new ones, but also larger orientation towards
the forms of tourist movement which will be based on
ecologie
principles. Considering
the fact that in some objects tourist activities are in the initial phase of the development,
it is necessary to coordinate them with the status of these goods and conduct them in
such a way that they cause the development of wide area. The analysis of the basic
criteria of WTO, which define eco-destination, has shown that the protected goods can
be partly considered as eco-destinations for the reason that one part of criterion is at
some extent satisfied (preserved natural attractions, places for recreation and footpaths,

local festivals and manifestations). However, some indicators such as: including of local
community in tourist offer, progress of local companies, improvement of
accommodation objects, contact between visitors and members of local community, still
have not been realized and something should be done on their implementation in future.
Simultaneously, in order to attract visitors, it is necessary to carry out some propaganda,
but also to improve cooperation with tourist organizations and agencies in larger
settlements with the biggest the tourist demand.
It can be concluded that the protected objects in
Banat
have real tourist
potentials but that neither of them still has achieved tourist development which would be
in accordance with the current values. In order to change that, the engagement and the
cooperation of large number of members of society who are interested in improvement
of the protected area are necessary. It is emphasized that the protection
ornature must
be
crucial factor and starting point in future planning of tourism. This will result in larger
orientation towards the forms of tourism which do not imply mass tourism, and
therefore, it will impose less risk to natural resources. In recent tourist development the
aforesaid direction has not been respected enough so the visits to these areas have had
mainly elemental character. In order to secure optimal use of objects of nature and
tourist activities which will not oppose natural motifs, it is important to emphasize their
importance for the forthcoming actions.
