Calicia.

vocal and gesrual expression forms. By staging he meant the general idea of a show, the planning of the scenic movement, the
responsibility for directing the actor and the participation of the elements of stage design in theatrical reality.

Both of them were very popular persons in the
city. In the newspaper were also printed reports from territories under the occupation of Russian Army. In the newspaper were
also included adverts or local shops. Last number was from

Land in the light of regional press during the years
1918-1939
The article demonstrates that various aspects, such as political life, social organizations activity, economic de¬
velopment, tourism and disasters were discussed in the
Sącz
region press of the interwar period. The presented news
were not fully objective; pro-government orientation seemed to prevail. The press issued in the
Sącz
Land during the
twenty-years interwar period was not merely a source information on the ongoing events. It was also giving its readers
an impulse for reflection and discussion of political, cultural and economic issues. For contemporary people it is a mine
of information about the
Sącz
region from a couple of decades ago.

Nowy Sącz
The youth publications in prewar Poland s education environment constituted a unique phenomenon. They were
magazines edited and issued by students for their peers. Such magazines were also published in
Nowy Sącz
and were
initiated by early 2l)th century small scout press and occasional leaflets.
Systematic publishing of fully-Hedged youth magazines began in
Nowy Sącz
in
1927
at the introduction of a biwe¬
ekly Lot which continued to be issued until
1933.
It was then substituted by a weekly
„Zew Gór
which existed since
February
1933
until the end of June
1939.
Both magazines were run by editorial teams consisting of students of middle schools and vocational schools from
Nowy
and
Stary Sącz
under the supervision of selected middle school teachers. Both periodicals included articles

written by the youth and they covered issues such as: school life in the area and the whole country, students cultural
and artistic activity, music (includingcontemporary jazz), literature, history and more. The magazines featured texts of
young local writers and journalists but also distinguished people for both the region and the whole country.
Preparation and publishing of those magazines was seen as part or intensive education of the young people invo¬
lved. Their accessibility and popularity contributed to growth in readership among young people living in the region.

1940-1944
During Word War Two, in response to mass propaganda from Germany, huge numbers of underground new¬
spapers and periodicals were published by various groupings in occupied Poland. The biggest Polish underground
movement was the armed wing of the government in exile
-
the Poland Victory Service
{Służba Zwycięstwu Polski,
SZP), later the Union of Armed Struggle
(Związek Walki Zbrojnej,
ZWZ) and the Home Army
(Armia Krajowa, AK).
This organisation undertook the task of keeping society regularly informed of the latest developments at home and
abroad and of the activity of the Polish government in exile. The so-called
Nowy7 Sącz
Inspectorate, subordinate to the
Cracow section command, was created within the structures of the Polish underground state in southern
Małopolska
(Lesser Poland). As part of the process of rebuilding the coutrys pre-war armed forces, in the autumn of
1944
the
formation of the First Home Army Regiment of the
Podhale
Rifles got under way in the Inspectorate. Various under¬
ground publications appeared in both the regiment and the Inspectorate. The State Archive in Cracow holds a part of
the regimental archive, which contains a complete set of
„Podhalanin ,
published by the regiment s first battalion. It is

from radio interceptions, political and military articles, reports of events in camps

The paper presents the origins and hisrory of publication of the first volumes of a regional periodical, coming out

Nowy Sącz,
publishing papers concerning history of the town and the region. Volume I came out in June
1939,

a publication of the Town Library named after
Józef
Szujski. The Second Volume could be published only at the end of
1949,
yet all the edition was confiscated by the Security Service of the communist Poland and destroyed. Reprint of this

The subject or the present gcnological analysis are journalistic texts, taken from the monthly titled
„Sądeczanin ,
published by
Sądecka
Foundation and distributed in the district of
Sącz.
While first characterising the features upon which
journalism genres are based, the author draws attention to blurring the traditional division between presentation oi facts
and commentary, which happens even in the short journalistic texts. She points out such characteristics of narration as
personification of a piece of news and dramatisation of a communication as well as the construction of a story line and
suggesting a conflict already by formulating a problem. She also reconstructs the journalists compositional targeting of
the longer newspaper rexts, analyses the models of description employed in press information, methods of constructing
narration with dialogs while recommending a person, forms of journalistic way of portraying the world in reportage. In
the texts addressed to the citizens of the region she draws the attention to the way in which lively narration with a hint of
humour, or even an
intrigile,
is constructed to keep the attention of a reader, while humour is to imply the community
bounds or the readers, and the narrative
stylu
is to convey the expression or a favourable attitude of the sender of the
communication and evoke an approval

the receiver. According to the author, the narrative journalistic forms structure
the dramaturgy of journalistic communication through transposition of the segments creating the architectonics or a texr

Niezależny1 .
An analysis of these magazines content had been carried out and was presented in the article. It aimed
at finding out the presence or cultural forms in the texts, as well as determining quantity of culture-oriented texts in
relation to other subjects published in the above-mentioned magazines. The results obtained have confirmed that the
magazines feature mostly content related with regional culture, then popular and religious, and only sporadically do
they deal with high culture issues. This

to the formulation of a thesis, that they indeed reflect regional culture, but
additionally help to animate and inspire the readership of the area.

An Overview
Parish press is a phenomenon characteristic for the last twenty-year period. There are currently six parish magazines
published in
Nowy Sącz
at the circulation of about six thousand copies per three months. This proves how opinion-
-forming such a medium is, as it is often described by certain parish priests as an „additional curate who continuously
and systematically provides catholic content to families that wish to have stronger bonds with local Church.
Such press concentrates mainly on current religious and social problems of the parish community. It sometimes
draws from history, making occasional use of valuable parish archives. Parish press is largely based on volunteer jo¬
urnalism and, hence, it rarely debates social issues which require constant monitoring of everyday self-government
pragmatics.

What is understood by the contemporary tourist press of
Nowy Sącz
is the publishing activity of two theme
magazines by
Beskid
departments of
PTTK
(Polish Tourist Society) and
PTT
(Polish Society for
Tatra
Mountains),
namely: „Echo
Beskidu , ancl „Beskid .
Both magazines are devoted largely to informing about their on-going activity by means of documenting (usually
in the form of reports) their own initiatives, the way they have been carried out and their influence on society. To
a lesser extent, both magazines cover current tourist issues, as well as deal with historical content.
Remarkably, the magazines are run by relatively innumerous editorial staff, which in recent years has negatively
influenced regularity of their publications (they have been published monthly).
