The purpose of this book
This book is suitable for both amateur and professional naturalists It provides a
concise account of the morphology, habits and distribution of 113 species of
athecate hydroids and their medusae recorded from the north-east Atlantic It also
provides means of identification, using keys, employing external characters
wherever possible The author hopes that this Synopsis will fill the gap between
the popular field guides and the more specialist monographs that deal with the
Hydrozoa of this area
