Resume
The life way of August Horislav
Škultéty
was complicated,
reflected social conditions and fates of all group national work¬
ers of first three quaters of
19
th century in Slovakia.
Škultéty
grows up in family of
protestants
priest, at home became also
basics of education, in which continues on evangelical
lyceum
in Bratislava, where contacted with students
Ľudovít Štúr s
circle. There shaped his image of the universe, life ideals and
first experiences on field of cultural activities. Material condi¬
tions forbid him to continue in university studies out of the
country, so he as

years old steps in their own life.
On the first staying in
Tisovec
he became chaplain, where
he started his literacy and
kultúrál
activities. On every next
life and cariers stoping places he not only continues on his
work effort, but he develops about new elements. In
Dlhá Ves
it was in activity on the field of children literacy and support¬
ing Tatrin, in
Rozložná
he continues in
cutítural
activities and
he take part in collection of
slovak
fairy tales.
Škultéty s
most far reaching contribution to education was
his participation in establishing The first
slovak
evangelical
grammar school where he was later appointed as superintend¬
ent and
profesor.
Working hard he dedicated all his energies
and organizational ability to this mission.
Revúca
grammar
school became the leading institution among the
slovak gym¬
nasial
institutions in the second half of 19th century. Thanks
to
Škultéty
it left a lasting mark on
slovak
schooling system.
Between
1862 - 1874
Škultéty
was fully absorbed in teaching
and management of the school life
.
He had to face the prob¬
lems which reflected the changing political mood of these
times. Because of that, there was only little time left for the
preparation of new and needed text books. Most of
Škultéty s

work remained therefore unpublished in handwritten manu¬
script.
Soon after the abolishment of three
slovak
grammar schools
-
Revúca
being one of them
-Škultety
had to leave the town.
He moved to
Tisovec
where he stayed by his close friend
Š. M.
Daxner.
Later he accepted an offer to become a vicar in the vil¬
lage of
Kraskovo.
Kraskovo
was the last stage of his career. During this period
Škultety
was active mainly in issues of the church community.
Although weak and frustrated, supported by his friends he
managed to finish and subsequently to publish his work

(Memoirs of
Revúca
grammar school and teacher s col¬
lege). This work was his last effort on the field of literature and
pegagogy. However, he continued to cooperate with his friends,
as well as with young national movement leading personalities
(many of them
Revúca
alumni). He died in
1892
in
Kraskovo.
