Contemporaries: The Haunted Text is the first work of its
kind to align selected twenty-first-century fiction with a revised
understanding of the gothic.This book explores the contemporary
gothic through signification, communication, ethics, death,
inheritance and currency, all of which should acquire an exchange
of some kind
-
but, as these texts demonstrate, such interactions
are fraught with failure.These key themes are explored across six
novels, which are haunted by the discussion of similar concepts
within specific discourses of law, philosophy, and psychoanalysis as
well as other literary texts.
