Zusammenfassung:The Kanuri constitute the dominant element of the population of Borno state in northeastern Nigeria, and are also found in large numbers in southeastern Niger. This file on the Kanuri consists of 11 documents. The literature covers Kanuri only in Nigeria, is almost entirely by the anthropologist Ronald Cohen and dates from ca. 1950s-1970. Included are Cohen's monograph on the Kanuri, as well as his articles on sociopolitical organization, attempts to change agricultural practices, nineteenth century political economy, marriage instability, kingship, processes of political incorporation, and status distinctions and social stratification. Rosman writes on the relationship between acculturation and social structure among urban Kanuri. Peshkin writes about the affect of Western-style education on social change in rural and urban Borno. The file is strong on Kanuri social and political organization up to the 1960s, while it is less so on religion, arts and recent social change between 1970 and the 1990s
