| adam_text | ABSTRACT
The influence of the globalization on national identity is complex and con¬
tradictory. There are two meanings of this term. In the first, according to type
of the national identity, primarily as political and cultural, the national identity
denotes personal identity as a member of the nation, what is understandable. In
the other case, it denotes identity in political and cultural society. Changes that
are occurred in the era of globalization lead to post-modern identity crisis. Plura¬
lism of capabilities and goals, their dependence on individual choice, relativism
of common values, and moral criteria, are causing more requests, demands, and
individuality just as frustration, insecurity and tensions between what one is and
what one likes to be. In such situations, fulfilling the need for security gets the
highest priority along with the strengthening of national and ethnical relations
that gives solid background and illusion of the objective base to individual and
collective existence. These kinds of changes are convenient for the strengthening
of national identity on personal level, and others, again, are burdening their co¬
hesive power as a collective identity. Multicultural tendencies and flowering of
the ethnical nationalism are the most important and they, although, are related to
globalization processes and supported by them. Their influence on national iden¬
tity and the state is internally. Strong global consumerism culture is considered
as external danger for the national identity. Globalization can be seen as a homo-
genization mostly to the level where the globalization is more westernization and
where de-territorisation and rational principle are key features. In that case, we
may be faced with the resistances of institutionalized national identities.
