Over the past decade, the emirate of Dubai has emerged as a leading transport and

transport and logistics sector over the past several decades has culminated in the
establishment of a major regional commercial hub, a so-called aerotropolis. Al-

Free trade agreements have been employed, either unilaterally or as a bloc, as an
instrument to overcome the inefficiencies in trade brought about by the prevailing
barriers and regulatory measures. During the 10th summit the leaders of ASEAN
agreed to integrate their priority sectors with a vision to developing an ASEAN eco-
nomic community whereby there would be a free flow of goods, services, investment
and a freer flow of capital, equitable economic development, and reduced poverty
and socio-economic disparities. The aim of this paper is to assess the current state
of the cross-border trade in logistics services among ASEAN. The extent of the ease
of cross-border trade is measured in terms of trade friendliness.

Fruitful Market Mediation: Challenges in Implementing Coopetition................80

Working in the primary sector, FruitCom is a grouping of exporters who banded
together in order to break into and develop new markets. While they aim to coop-
erate and coordinate their activities to support actions within these new markets,
the firms involved still compete in other, more established export markets. This
coopetitive relationship allows the group many benefits, relating to their ability
to source material and ensure a more consistent supply, but opens them up to chal-
lenges, such as managing of opportunistic behaviour by other members. This case
outlines the background of the firms and introduces the most recent and significant
challenges that they face. The implications of their structure are discussed, with
attention to supply, risk pooling, information sharing, and revenue and cost shar-
ing. The successes gained by the group are not without sacrifice; the challenges of
their operations are discussed, with emphasis on the most recent and perhaps most
significant challenge yet.

state of Chhattisgarh is considered the rice bowl of India as it is one of the largest
contributors to paddy production in India. This case familiarizes the readers of the
distribution system of rice, various government policies in its distribution system,
and the issues that need to be addressed in a typical distribution system of rice. The
case also urges the readers to mull over how these inefficiencies can be overcome
with the latest supply chain management techniques so as to make its distribution
efficient and cost effective.

During the early 2000s, the Boeing Company was experiencing a market shrink
due to a downturn in the aerospace industry after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, as well
as severe competition from its rival, Airbus. To deal with the situation and salvage
its market share, Boeing proposed the design of a new aircraft called Boeing 787
or the Dreamliner. This futuristic aircraft was received very well by the airlines.
Very soon, it became the fastest selling new airplane in the history of commercial
aviation. Nevertheless, after the initial successful launch, the company faced many
supply chain related problems, which resulted in repeated delays and huge extra
costs. These delays (now more than two and a half years) could add up to as long
as three years. In this research, the authors investigate how the mismatch between
the supply chain capabilities and the Boeing s strategy for developing this airplane
contributed to these delays and extra costs.

This study examines the internationalization experience of Wanxiang, an auto
supplier in China. Once at the lower end of internationalization and controlled by
its Western partners without own brands and distribution channels, Wanxiang has
managed to climb the ladder of internationalization and taken much more shares
from supply chain profits in its co-opetition with Western partners. Two mini-cases
are presented and discussed in this climbing process. First is how to obtain more
direct market access and more appropriation of chain profits in competition against
its Western partners. The second is how to acquire more sophisticated technological
assets for value-adding and manage them wisely. Two notable lessons are identified:
(i) use diversification prudently for capital accumulation to support the capability
building, and (ii) the management of acquisitions for technology and markets by
maintaining a proper balance between autonomy and the integration of the acquired
business units.

The medical application requirement for a health care system includes effective,

on the application requirements, this case study describes a grid-based system in a
health information supply chain that monitors and detects national infectious events
using GIS, RFID, and grid computing technology.

discusses about its operations and supply chain. The case specifically discusses about
its operations in Bhilai (Chhattisgarh State), India s Steel City, where it provides
free meals to around 31,768 children in about 156 schools around Bhilai.

Increasing globalization of the supply chains is making them increasingly vulnerable
to various supply chain risks. Effective management of these risks is essential to
prevent minor as well as major risks that may occur in day-to-day operations of the
firm. In this chapter, an attempt is made to bring out a schema for analyzing supply
chain risks faced by the firm and develop a risk management action framework
that would serve as a guide for practitioners to identify the level at which they are
operating and the strategies they need to employ to combat or prevent supply chain
risks. The data is collected by means of an online as well as an event survey from
logistics managers of various supply chain firms. Indeed, Singaporean firms need
to properly document these supply chain risks. Moreover, there are gaps in specific
areas where Singaporean firms can improve themselves and thus become globally
effective corporations.
