SUMMARY
Sites of Scythian times of the Severskij Donets Forest-Steppe have
not been the subject of separate full research for the last half a cen¬
tury. By this time there have been accumulated great datum base that
needs to be systematized and generalized. The object of the research
was the presumptive description of the Severskij Donets group of
Scythian times.
Basing the analysis of settlement types and peculiarities of mate¬
rial culture it seems to be possible to talk about the settled lifestyle
of the majority of agricultural population with scanty mobility of the
semi-nomad uppers.
The research of the ceramic complex allows to talk about simi¬
larity of the local ceramic complex with synchronous crockery of the
Dmper Forest-Steppe. Genetically, potter's traditions of the Severskij
Uonets population concerned with inhabitants of the Vorskla Right-
bank region of early Scythian times.
Main types of armaments, harness details and decoration are
almost analogues to the finds in synchronous monuments of the
r^y^orat-Steppe.

Steppe part of the Severskij Donets Right-bank. Probably, it was the
tribe of Herodot's melanhlens that formed a part of the
budin
union.
There have been distinguished and characterized three main periods
in ethnocultural history of the region population. The periods are
chronically correspondent with traditional division of the Scythian
period.
A considerable military power of the local population, that was
a restrictive factor for the nomads, allowed them to keep indepen¬
dence during the whole Scythian period.
Disappearance of the Scythian time population at the beginning
of III century

presented the reflection of common process for the
Northern Black Sea Littoral; the reasons of this phenomenon are still
being debated.
As a result of the work we managed to get Ml and systematic
description of the Severskij Donets population of the Scythian times.
This amplifies our knowledge about ethnocultural history of the
Forest-Steppe Left-bank Ukraine in the early Iron Age.
