Archetypal world of Nikola
Tesla
A well know thought of Jacob Burkharda s „shall eter¬
nally be able to anticipate only from afar, the grand con¬
tours of Leonardo s being , without any exaggeration also
applies to Nikola
Tesla.
Even though as much as an entire
small library has been written on
Tesla,
to my knowledge,
none of these books and studies deal with the archetypal
world of Nikola
Tesla,
in other words, all that was ar¬
chetypal in his personality and his work.
Hence this monograph represents a first book of its
kind and an attempt to fill the mentioned gap. This has
been done by comprehending
Tesla
in the light of analyti¬
cal psychology of Carl
Gustav
Jung
-
at the core of which
can be encountered the research of the collective uncon¬
scious, containing archetypes; in order to comprehend so¬
mething greater than just „grand contours of
Tesla.
Unlike in psychoanalysis which deals with research
of the individual unconscious, i.e. what is solely personal,
analytical psychology allows us to comprehend what is to be
found on the other side of personal. That way it is possible
to go further and deeper that just the „contours , even when
they are „grand , they represent only what is on the outside.
Such an in-depth-psychological approach has enabled
me to alleviate the pessimism contained in the phrase „no
one shall ever be able to interpret
Tesla ,
hence he will re¬
main a perpetual enigma. And Tesla s only wish, as he had
pointed out in one of his dispatches, „was to leave behind a

centuries long
unforgettable
message ,
in other words, thro¬
ugh his discoveries, to bear his very essence of archetypal,
and which is, having in mind the everlasting value of his
inventions, by no means a „centuries long message .
With respect to that, just as Jung,
Tesla
could say:
„The greatest difference between me and most of people
consists in the fact that the „partition wall appears to me
as transparent. That is my personal trait. Others find that
these walls are so opaque that it is impossible to see anyt¬
hing beyond, and that hence there is nothing. People that
do not see anything have no sense of security and are not
able to make conclusions
-
and should they make them,
do not believe in them .
Just as Jung,
Tesla
had his own personal myth, for
„what constitutes a person through its own internal image,
and what represents sub specie aeternitatis, i.e. from the
standpoint of eternity, can solely be expressed through a
myth, far more personal and far more accurately represen¬
ting of life than science does, for science is based on the
terms of mediocrity, too general in order to correctly asses
the subjective variety of an individual life . (Jung).
Hence
Tesla,
through his personal myth, as a man be¬
ing not only ahead, but also above its time, went beyond
the boundaries of exact science in order not only to fore¬
see the future, but also see what others could not.
However, few are those who were able to fathom Te-
sla s „myth , whose better understanding would hopefully
be unveiled by this monograph. Its goal is, as previously
said, to grasp
Tesla
in light of the in-depth psychology,
more precisely in light of analytical psychology of K.G.
Jung, which has enabled me to peek into the archetypal

of Nikola
Tesla,
in other word all that was ar¬
chetypal in his personality and his work.
If I have succeeded in such an endeavor even at least
partially, and I believe that I have, then I have a reason
to be content, and my effort will not be in vain, at least
not when having in mind those who are ready to approach
this monograph with the desire of understanding it, and
which, as I suppose, are not many. For in order to under¬
stand this book, one is required to be acquainted with the
language of in-depth psychology, and especially the lan¬
guage of Jung s analytical psychology, which I have tried
to acquaint the reader with either implicitly or explicitly
and in most basic lines through this monograph.
While working on this monograph I used the follo¬
wing order
-
first I pointed out the importance and the
function of the mother archetype and Tesla s white dove
in order to fully understand his personality and his work;
then I explained Tesla s prophetic perception of the wo¬
man s future and looked back upon the incomprehensible
and unacceptable psychiatrisation of his personality.
While introducing the reader with Nikola Tesla s opus,
I first spoke of the archetype of light, strongly present in
his personality, then of archetypal roots lying in the di¬
scovery of the rotating magnetic field, then of the mysti¬
cism in his personality and his creativity, and finally on
instruction of Nikola
Tesla
in light of the „acorn theory
by James Hillman. Judging by this theory,
Tesla
was in¬
structed by his daemon to indebt and enrich the humanity
with his discoveries, and especially with the discovery of
the rotating magnetic field, which undoubtedly represents
the energetic nucleus of all his discoveries.
