Beschreibung: | "This book argues that the Renaissance, long associated with the historical development of individualism, in fact witnessed the emergence of radically new concepts of group identity. From the end of the fifteenth century, rapidly accelerating globalization intensified cross-cultural encounters, destabilized older categories of large- and small-group identity, and contributed to the rise of new hybrid group concepts. Drawing on insights from psychoanalysis, linguistics, and social network theory, this book advances a theory of "group subjectivity" - perceptions, fantasies, and patterns of belief that guide the behaviors of individuals in groups and of collectives. Considering not only Europe, but also South Asia, Africa, the Sugar Islands of the Atlantic, the Caribbean world, and Brazil, Hannah Chapelle Wojciehowski reconsiders the Renaissance in global context, presenting micro-histories of group identity formation, and persuasively argues that we think of that transformational era as a "re-networking" of the world and its peoples, rather than a "rebirth.""-- Provided by publisher. - Not yet published - available from September 2011 Includes bibliographical references and index |

Press 2011 XXXIV, 360 S. Ill. txt rdacontent n rdamedia nc rdacarrier "This book argues that the Renaissance, long associated with the historical development of individualism, in fact witnessed the emergence of radically new concepts of group identity. - Not yet published - available from September 2011 Includes bibliographical references and index Burckhardt, Jacob 1818-1897 (DE-588)11851752X gnd rswk-swf More, Thomas 1478-1535 Utopia (DE-588)4203753-0 gnd rswk-swf Hagesander ca. v50 Laokoongruppe (DE-588)4262408-3 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1500-1650 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Group identity Europe History Group identity History Renaissance HISTORY / Europe / General bisacsh Renaissance (DE-588)4049450-0 gnd rswk-swf Gruppenidentität (DE-588)4140349-6 gnd rswk-swf Europa Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 gnd rswk-swf Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 g Renaissance (DE-588)4049450-0 s Gruppenidentität (DE-588)4140349-6 s Geschichte 1500-1650 z DE-604 Burckhardt, Jacob 1818-1897 (DE-588)11851752X p Hagesander ca. v50 Laokoongruppe (DE-588)4262408-3 u More, Thomas 1478-1535 Utopia (DE-588)4203753-0 u http://www.loc.gov/catdir/enhancements/fy1101/2010044853-b.html Contributor biographical information http://www.loc.gov/catdir/enhancements/fy1101/2010044853-t.html Table of contents only http://www.loc.gov/catdir/enhancements/fy1102/2010044853-d.html Publisher description HBZ Datenaustausch application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=024162624&sequence=000002&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis |
