Summary The results of Nikoniy researching on the border of I - II centuries - the middle of III century A.D. are systematized and generalized in this monography. This researching has been conducted since 1957. Such long-term period of material’s accumulation for the city life review in first centuries A.D. is connected with the almost complete elimination Nikoniy cultural stratifications of this time. Nevertheless, nowadays it is known, that in the city the fortification system with a few specific lines functioned. This specificity is connected with the feature of military-political situation in a region, its relative stability up to Goth invasions near the middle of III century A.D. Dwelling houses were, as a rule, from a few apartments, the area of which exceeded 100 square meters. A stone paving was widespread in city. Within the limits of houses there were earthen granaries, by volume of to 5 - 6 cubic meters each. The basis of economic activity of Nikoniy habitants in the first centuries A.D. was made by agriculture. A stock-raising and trades was developed. The handicrafts were developed enough poorly, but provided basic economic necessities. The trade was enough intensive, but it is possible to consider that it carried exchange character. The imported commodities testify to mainly Black Sea region and Minor Asia direction of Nikoniy connections with the outer world. Besides Minor Asia and Black Sea region trade with the islands of the Aegean Sea was conducted. A revival of trade is on a period from middle of the II century A.D. for the first half of the III century
A.D. There were difficult processes of syncretization of different deities in religious life of city inhabitants. But all reverent deities in Nikoniy were related with the basis of economic activity of habitants - with agriculture. The Nikoniy necropolis of the first centuries A.D. is investigated, where, to the present tense, a 51 complex is studied. On the features of ritual and types of buildings all objects can be parted on three basic groups. First from them make single burials in non deep the simple ground pits of rectangular or oval in a plan form. The second group, most numerous, form burial places in the ground burial vaults. The third group is presented by the non deep simple ground pits of rectangular or oval in 209
a plan form, without tracks of burial places, which can be added on a category mention sacrificial . To judge about buried position and orientation it is possible only on the basis of a few survivor from a plunder complexes, including simple burials. All of them were accomplished on the ceremony of body laying, prolate on the back. The orientation of buried is unsteady: north-west, northeast, southeast, south-west. The surviving anthropological material, including the one from the blasted complexes, allows to suppose that from 4 to 6 persons could minimum be buried in every separate burial vault. In spite of practically complete plunder which a necropolis was exposed to, the period of its functioning is determined sufficiently reliable. The earliest complexes are dated by the end of first - the second quarter of the II century A.D. The next group is dated by the middle - the third quarter of the same century. And, finally, chronology of the third group of burials is determined within the framework from the end of II for the first half of III centuries A.D., inclusive. Thus, the Nikoniy necropolis of Roman time began to fimetion at the end of the first fourth of the II century A.D. and halted the existence near the middle of the III century A.D. The analysis of materials, which were investigated on territory of site of ancient settlement, and also on the Nikoniy necropolis, grounds to suppose that late Scythians, Greeks, Thracians and, possibly, Sarmatians entered in the complement of permanent inhabitants of the city. Not eliminated, that, since the end of the second third
of II century A.D. in Nikoniy bedded subdivision of auxiliary troops of the Roman army, that allows, along with the fact of fortification system functioning in city, probably, to plug it in the system of Low Dniester region defensive. Life on Nikoniy of Roman time is halted near a middle of the III century A.D., that, probably, it is necessary to bind with the hike of Black Sea region barbarians to Propontida in 257 or 258 years, when the population of the city was forced to abandon it very quickly, or it was bulldogged in a captivity, and the city was blasted. 210
