Summary
Drenica
is a plateau that s connects The Plane of
Kosova
with The Plane
of Dukagjini. Abria/Obria is one of the villages that regularly is mentioned in
Drenica,
Kosova
and in all other Albanian territories. In Abria/Obri, is born
Xhemajl
Abria,
one of the most clever and consciousness people in Albanian
territories.
Professor Anton
Çetta
said: Drenica had wise and conscious elders.
Above all is mentioned Xhemajl Obrija, of Obria
Epërme
village, who died
around
1908 .
He was born in
1830
in the village
Abri
e
Epërme
and died in
1908.
Therefore, it is
178
anniversary of his birth and
100
anniversary of his death.
As a sign of respect to this people s erudite, this Monograph on his life,
work and the treasury of various forms of oral composition, I hope to be a
modest contribution on that.
On all Albanian territories, in all Albanian chambers and towers, are
heard, told, interpreted words, people expressions, stories, anecdotes and
judgments, who s creator and carrier was Xhemajl
Abria
or related to his name.
He had three surnames. He was called, Xhemajl Seferi, on father s
name, Xhemajl Obria/Abria, on village s name, and Xhemajl
Aga,
as honored
title.
He was very much known as Xhemajl Obria, the way his village was
called. Later, the village, on cadastral official documents is called
Abri,
therefore
this thinker, now, is called Xhemajl
Abria.
Because of this, from the beginning,
there have been given explanations regarding the name of the village Obri or
Abri
and Xhemajl Obria or Xhemajl
Abria.
There have been attempts that the Monograph doesn t get big. But, he,
in the role of Elder of
Kosova,
the title is given by the Chamber of Junik in
1877,
he stepped on all Albanian territories, staying for nights and weeks. He
reconciled individuals, families and villages. Therefore, I have written a little
more, for
Abria
that gave a birth and grew him, Drenica, with the bravery and
wisdom specifications and up to connections that he had with random people,
with elders, leaders of Albanian National Movement, shiny intellect of nation,
pashas and officials and up to the leaders of any State and Empire.
There have been given data about Drenica, its dimension, the origin of
the name, braveries and wisdoms, hospitality and tolerance, two great national
values that he was cultivating so good.
There have been presented various thoughts for the dimension and the
origin of the name. The most documented one, where the name Drenica came
from, is
dren.
According to
Çabej,
it is frequent phenomenon of baptizing, by
the name of animals as it is
dren
(deer). With regard of the
Nezir Çitaku
idea
Xhemajl
Abria
-
Pleqnar
і
Kosovës
( Drenica
among
centaries , Ulqin,
2008),
that Drenica took the name
according to noble lady Kllo-Drenica- Drenica, who lived in medievalism, at the
time of Car Dushan. Let this be for curious explorers.
It was difficult to present the work, life and the treasury of Xhemajl
Abria,
and we do not talk about the
Obria/Abria.
This village has some
specifications, even before Xhemajl
Abria.
But, with the birth of Xhemajl
,
it was
born a man with a rare wisdom; it became the elder with the skills of prevision
and people s genius.
Specialties of
Abria
are: Five Generations of
Abria
and its Convention,
headed by Xhemajl
Abria,
common organization of the life in the village,
judgments in
Abria,
outside
Abria
and Drenica, people and up to curious cases
as it is the connection of blood with the Kastrioti door, etc.
Supporting the legends, stories, tales of Abrians, and in particular of
strong memory of many of them, broadly there has been presented data on Five
Generations of
Abria.
Those have been formed by five brothers, the first of
Abria:
Gaxha, Rexha, Islam,
Çerkin
and
Smaka.
The work of the Five Generations Convention, the representatives
selected by Xhemajl
,
to be presented on the close Council of Convention, are
another specialty of his success. Five Generations were very careful, on keeping
his body and his word. They helped that Xhemajl
Abria
be able to judge by
converting into cult: born wisdom, justice and the force to protect the justice.
This Monograph provides concrete cases of stories, anecdotes, judgments, etc.
Hospitability and tolerance, among Albanians, are national assets. As a
man of peace, reconciliation, hospitability and tolerance, Xhemajl
Abria
has
shown special affinity to cultivate these values.
Care for his brothers of his clan and his blood, of catholic confession, it
was a part of his value and his national character. The stories about the Alikurts
of Caravik and other cases prove it.
Even among our brothers of catholic religion has enjoyed extraordinary
respect.
Mark Zefi from Shpinadi has said: You go to church, I am not coming
because Xhemajl
Abria
came to me.
Due to these values, he participated in Albanian Prizren League
(1878).
He was escorted by Zenel Sadiku of
Çerkinaj,
his co-villager and co-elder.
Xhemajl was
48.
I have heard and I have written down earlier, but
Mehmet
Çerkinaj
re-told it, the progeny of Zenel Sadiku.

Zenel, has hesitated to go on that historical meeting. It was June
and the works of the land must be completed. Otherwise the meadows will be

burned and corn will be left uncultivated! In order that Xhemajl is not left
alone, the Five Generations promise to Zenel Sadiku that they will carry out all
farm works. When they were back, after three weeks, Zenel Sadiku found the
corn cultivated and meadows mowed down.
The participation on APL, impacted on Xhemajl to strengthen his
manhood fame. On the First Reconciliation Assembly, after APL, headed by
Binak Alia, Drenica was represented by Xhemajl
Abria.
Later, under the
insistence of Binak Alia, the Assembly will be headed by Xhemajl
.
Xhemajl was clever and brave. But, he always was ready for agreements
and against violence. He was conscious that any foreigner that comes as invader
has it own bad and consequences. But, with a big shrewdness he noticed where
the danger for extirpation is coming from. It was not coming either for Ottoman
Empire or Austro-Hungarian Empire, but from Slavic states, supported by
Russia, proven by unseen crimes committed in almost

villages of Nish

He was claiming tolerance and understanding to keep safe the people,
because there were other forms of fight for freedom. This was in accordance
with viewpoint of bright minds of nation as were Nairn and
Sami
Frashëri,
their
son Mid hat
Frashëri, Shtjefën Gejqovi, Hoxhë Tahsini,
and after a period of
time, Hasan Prishtina, Ismail Qemali, Haxhi
Zeka
and someone else, that were
doing diplomatic fight.
From folklore collectors, scientists of different fields and experts of
Xhemajl
Abria
Treasury, they consider him as man with foreboding or genius
from the people bosom. Therefore, it so strongly remained and continues to be
strong memory for him and his treasury of composition.
The last chapter, where it is shown only a part of his values, it was
called: The genius from the people bosom .
The forms of oral composition related to his name, are words, national
expressions, stories, anecdotes, judgments, myths and legends.
A part of it is collected and published on the editions of LAP
(Albanologic Institute of Prishtina), of special editions of various authors, and a
good portion of them, have been taken from informers, respectively from
authors and the carriers of oral composition forms of Xhemajl
Abria
or for
Xhemajl
Abria.
In all of that espies the wisdom, justice, honesty, strategy of force for
justice, enigmatic solutions up to the capabilities for foreboding.
The words of Xhemajl
Abria
had message of education, reconciliation
and the cultivation of goods relation among people.

He has defined the scales of manhood, by floors, and scaled as follows:
on the fist floor the one who has patience

tolerance , on the second floor:
the one who escapes from evil , on the third floor: the one who forgive the
evil .
He commands: It is hard to make the enemy a friend, but it is easy to
make the friend an enemy . He was appraising the worker and precious member
of family over all, therefore: it is an asset a man in front of field, grove and
meadow . He was asked, whether it is too much to have ten boys? The respond
of Xhemajl was it: My friend, as you takes it, ten a little and one a lot . Ten
precious workers are little, and one bad and worthless is much, it was his
philosophy behind of his respond. With his wisdom, he commands to move as
time goes, so, when he was congratulated for the birth of his son, with the
benediction Inshallah he becomes as you , his respond was: Inshallah he is as
time comes, because when my time is over, people would laugh with him .
He commands to expand the knowledge, once he commands the imam
Read books, because the knowledge is as lamp without gas, once gives little
light and sometime it turns off.
The old man is held by a good son it is educative command for all
generations, and in the tower of Junik, of Binak Alia, he said:
As long as we kill each other, the foreigners will never go away .
Binak Alia gets up and shakes the hand of Xhemajl
Abria
and says to
him: From today and on, the head of elders of
Kosova
will be Xhemajl Obria,
and not anymore Binak Alia.
The top of his character and nobility is expressed on the respond that he
gave to Ramadan Shabani:
WHO IS SWEETER?
Ramadan Shabani was asking him:
Who is sweeter to you?
The man I could understand, from sunrise to sunset, he s my brother.
But the man I cannot understand, even he is from my mother, his nothing to
me!
The words of Xhemajl
Abria
as a reaction for the lack of our unity, that:
maybe we will win something, after

years? and Dad, it will come to
Kosova,
when its time comes! show the forebode skills. After one hundred
years, we won the independence!
As elder of
Kosova,
he showed extraordinary capabilities to judge
difficult cases, to resolve very enigmatic cases and cases, for which properly he
got the epithet of genius from the people bosom.

With mastery, he used the force to protect the justice. This is proven by
a lot of judgments: Xhemajl

titles of anecdotes.
On his judgments it dominated the justice, honesty and wisdom up to
the cult. There have been given a lot of examples, how much he hated the bribe,
pleasure (appetite).
He appraised and used the experience whenever and wherever. He
thought that it should be used the experience of at least three generations.

Xhemajl asked him:

After a break, being curious,

Pasha asked Xhemajl
Abria
for his age:

Being surprised by the answer, Xhemajl
Abria
explained:

The way one trouble was resolved, which could not be judged by
Rexhë
Hyseni from Bellopoja, is for deep analysis.
Rexhë
Hyseni from Bellopoja, well-known elder, asked for help to
resolve a trouble between some families, about the inheritance of property. It
could not be concluded the closest family member to inherit the property.
Xhemajl
Abria
instructed
Rexhë:

Open the grave of the decedent. Take a bone of him. Call a male from
both parties in trouble. Take a drop of blood from them and put on bone. The
once blood is absorbed by the bone, give the share of the decedent to him,
because he is the closest relative.
With this Monograph for Xhemajl

the Elder of
Kosova,
I hope,
we are paying back a debt, to remember and rise better on the mind of people,
for his commands and wisdom. Let it be stimulation for the people of folklore,
national composition, legal people, psychologists, sociologists to study the
treasury, which we have and the things that could be collected from people.
