Squadron Swordfish, March
1939.
Ark Royal s Swordfish squadrons were
finished in aluminium dope and Cerrux Grey and
carried a three figure fleet number, though there
were differences between squadrons in the
application of carrier bands and fleet numbers. For
example, on
814
Squadron Swordfish the carrier
band was three distinct chevrons, with the fleet
number in red carried on the rear fuselage. On
820
Squadron Swordfish, the carrier identification was
a forward sloping band, with the fleet number

the Italians). The serial for this aircraft is not
known for certain but from this photograph it
