Prof. Alfred
Uçi,
member of the Academy of Sciences of Albania, is tlie
author of many books in the field of philosophy and aestlietics. His main
ëork,
in three volumes, entitled The
Aestììetics
,
was published during the
years
1987-1989
in
Tirane. In
the last decade lie has published a series of
books: Shakespeare in the Albanian World , Dostoevski in Our Time ,
The Hell-Paradise of Dante , Tlie Kadarean Grotesque ,
Promettons
and Hamlet , Paradigms of the Contemporary Conscience , Tlie Tragi¬
cal Burden of the Literary Heroes . Tlie study Tlie Aesthetics of tlie Gro-
tesque-Tlieory and History constitutes a detailed study (in four books)
which is prepared during tlie years
1993-1998.
In the first books are treated problems of tlie general theory of tlie gro¬
tesque, reaching to a determination that evaluates tlie grotesque ar one of
tlie most important aestlietic categories, one of tlie most general manners of
the aestlietic assimilation of life, and an artistic-literary which is distin¬
guished by an axtraordinary variety of forms. In tlie formulation of the
aestlietic tlieoretical concept of tlie grotesque tlie author
ëas
incited, on one
side, by the irreverence and ignorance of tlie creative potential of tlie gro¬
tesque in our country, and, on the otlier side, tlie conviction of tlie author
that
tlie
grotesque
lias liad
a universal extension almost in all tiie.history of
the artistic culture of tlie mankind, from tlie mythical antiquity until tlie
end of the XX-th century.
To argue convincingly his concept on tlie grotesque, in tlie conditions

otlier countries, tlie greatest masters of literature and art, from tlie antiqyity
up to our time, from tlie Greek-Roman literatures (Homer, Aeschylles,
Sophocles, Euripides, Aristophanes, Lucan, Plautus, Juvenal, Terence esc.,
