1995
was the 80th. anniversary of achieving the civic rights by
Zawiercie.
In
1915
the German invador, striving to conciliate the inhabitants
of the village, gave the civic rights to a thirty-thousand industrial settlement
having distinguishing features of a town.
In the biography of people of
Zawiercie
we have accomplished to publish
over eighty biograms and biographies of starosts and mayors among other
people from socio-cultural and economic spheres of life. They contain infor¬
mation of any kind, collected mostly with help of their relatives. They are the
people who were born in
Zawiercie,
who have lived and worked here for the
development of the local community.
Years have passed. Human memory is deceptive. Not many of us know or
remember
Bolesław Masłowski,
director and creator of the personnel policy in
TAZ
(the joint stock company in
Zawiercie),
eliminating a thousand local co¬
lony of Germans in revenge for expelling Polish families from the Prussian
sector to
Zawiercie
among others during the functioning of infamous
Hakata.
Bolesław Masłowski
was the man thanks to which
Zawiercie
was not Germa¬
nized (the Germans gained the culmination of their blossom in
1899
on com¬
pletion of the Augsburg-evangelical church). Only short archival mentions of
Masłowski
remained and he is now a forgotten citizen not having even re¬
membrance in the form of calling a treet by his name.
For almost
600
surveys sent over to collect biographical material, the fami¬
lies of those whose profiles were included answered. I thank those who helped
for their kindness. I hope that the next edition will have a supplement and will
contain more names of citizens of our town by what their contributions to the
development of
Zawiercie
will not sink into oblivion. The biography of people
of
Zawiercie
aims for it.
Ifit
is to the purpose and will not let us forget about
such citizens of
Zawiercie
as
Bolesław Masłowski,
it will appear that it is
a fully needed publication supplementing all the texts on
Zawiercie
comming
out.
