LNSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS AS PROCESS AND PRACTICE IN THE 13 AMERICAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE REM MULKINS MANNING INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS IS DEFINED WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF REGIONAL ACCREDITATION, COMMON TERMS RELATED TO INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS ARE PRESENTED, AND PROCESSES USED IN THE PRACTICE OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS ARE EXPLORED. 3. ACCOUNTABILITY AND LNSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS IN THE 23 COMMUNITY COLLEGE PETER T. EWELL AS A RESULT OF HEIGHTENED GOALS FOR DEGREE ATTAINMENT, COMMUNITY COLLEGES PRESENTLY FIND THEMSELVES IN THE NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT AND UNDER INCREASING SCRUTINY WITH REGARD TO ACCOUNTABILITY. THIS CHALLENGE CAN BE MET USING TECHNOLOGY AND A NEW GENERATION OF ACCOUNTABILITY MEASURES APPROPRIATE TO THE DISTINCTIVE COMMUNITY COLLEGE MISSION. 4. ACCREDITATION AND LTS LNFLUENCE ON LNSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS 37 RONALD B. HEAD, MICHAEL S. JOHNSON ACCREDITATION PROVIDES STRUCTURE AND STANDARDS WHICH ALLOW COMMUNITY COLLEGES TO IMPROVE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ACADEMIC PROGRAMS AND SUPPORT SERVICES. IMAGE 2 5. THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE IR SHOP AND ACCREDITATION: 53 A CASE STUDY GEORGEJOHNSTON A THEORETICAL MODEL FROM THE LITERATURE OF HIGHER EDUCATION IS USED TO EXPLORE INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH PRACTICES SUPPORTING REGIONAL ACCREDITA- TION AND INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS AND COMPARE THEM AMONG THE DIFFERENT REGIONAL ACCREDITING AGENCIES. 6. DOWD, USA KLEIMAN STUDENT SUCCESS LIES AT THE HEART OF BOTH THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE MISSION AND THE PRACTICE OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS, YET MEASURING SUCH SUCCESS HAS PROVEN QUITE CHALLENGING AND DIFFICULT.
