This text deals with a description of a short history of the
Děčín
Region in the post-War era of Czechoslovakia called The Third Repub¬
lic . In
1945,
after the fall of the Nazi Germany, came to the former
Reichsgau Sudetenland
a new touch of freedom. The northernmost
part of Czechoslovakia, the
Děčín
Region, faced a new reality. From
May
1945
to the communist coup d etat of the February
1948
tried peo¬
ple of this part of the country to cope with many different problems.
In the Era of the First Republic of Czechoslovakia
(1918-1938)
was
in the
Děčín
Region a large minority of German people. In
1938,
after
the Munich Crisis, became the
Děčín
Region a part of the German
Third Reich, known as
Reichsgau Sudetenland
(Country of Sudeten-
land of the Reich). Czech people were forced to leave their homes in
the
Děčín
Region and they had to search a new home in the illusively
save places in the rest of Czechoslovakia. In
1939
Germany occupied
the rest of independent Czech Lands and created the Protectorate of
Bohemia and Moravia (Protoktorat
Böhmen und Mähren).
Town of
Děčín,
the center of the region and the District of
Děčín,
was inhabited
by Germans.
In May of
1945
were in the Town of
Děčín
only a few Czech people.
After the fall of the Nazi Germany a new reality came to the
Děčín
Region. Establishment of the system of National Committees, the
expulsion of Germans from the Czech Borderland, the process of Nati¬
onalization of the former German industry, preparation of Elections
of
1945
and
1946;
all these processes and phenomena of the post-War
Děčín
Region are discussed in this book.
The text of this book is divided thematically into several chapters.
First of them describes the situation from 8th to 10th May
1945;
the fall
of the German Reich in the
Děčín
Region, the arrival of soviet Red
army and bilateral meetings between Czechs and Germans.
Second chapter deals with the problematic of the Elections of
1945
and
1946
and the Establishment of the system of National Commit¬
tees.
In third chapter is discussed the question of other nationalities in
Děčín
Region in post-war era. The process of Expulsion of Germans

from Borderland is mentioned, also the problematic of other prisoners
of war, located in
Děčín
and surrounding towns after the end of the
Second World War.
Fourth chapter introduces to the reader the culture situation in
Děčín
region, supported by the incoming Czech people. It includes
also the situation of the Churches and the reconstruction of the Czech
education system.
In fifth chapter the situation of industry is mentioned, also the
process of confiscation of Germen s property and, of course, the rate
of destruction of buildings in
Děčín
Region caused by the bombing
at the end of the war.
Two final chapters deal with the problems of the forthcoming
Communist Regime in February
1948.
This monograph is based on author s original historical research
of the documents and written materials from the Era of the Third
Republic. Most of the information contained in this book has never
been published before. The publication of this book is the result of
Specific Research of the Faculty of Arts of University of
Hradec Králové
