In the may
2009,
during every year s Night at the Museum in The Museum of the
Kłodzko
Land there was opening of a new temporary exhibition
-
Kłodzko
in
the Middle Ages
-
that showed the oldest history of the town. In exposition rooms
and basements there are accumulated the most precious exhibits
-
objects of art, docu¬
ments, elements of armoring and material culture that come from own collections as well
as from other museums and organizations
-
among other things: The National Museum
in
Wrocław,
The City Museum of
Wrocław
(The Museum of Archeology), The Museum
of East Czech Republic in Pardubice, The Museum of
Nysa,
The Museum of Historic
Trade in
Świdnica,
The Parish under the invocation of Assumption of Mary in
Kłodzko,
The Parish under the invocation of Mary Rosary and The State Archive in
Wrocław.
The exhibit shows history of: politics, town-planning, art, culture and daily life
of medieval
Kłodzko.
First time there has been showed facsimiie of few pages of The Chronic¬
le of Czech by
Kosmas
from first quarter of the
XII
century. On the facsimile are inscriptions
about
Kłodzko
of which the earliest
-
from the year
981
-is:

There have been showed the earliest documents of
Kłodzkos
åldermans,
a great seal of the
town and coins including those coined by lords of the
Kłodzko
Land
-
Puta
from
Častalovice
and Ulryk
von Hardeck.
Arnošt,
the archbishop from Pardubice
(1297-1364),
has been men¬
tioned too. On the exhibit there are presented souvenirs and objects of art connected with the
archbishop who was a deserved person for the
Kłodzko
Land.
Especially precious exhibits are manuscripts: a document known as the Golden
Bulla
of the emperor Carol IV and the pope Clemens Vis act from the year
1352
that confirmed
the Augustan presbytery foundation, The Missal of the Prague Diocese from the first half
of XV century and the music manuscript from the second half of
XIV
century that proba¬
bly were written in the
Kłodzko
Augustinians
scriptorium and moreover a document from
the year
1500
(illuminated and exhibited first time) which guaranteed a complete indul¬
gence for Christians who had visited the Saint Jacobs chapel and was affirmed with stamps
by fifteen cardinals. As concerns the objects of art an interesting position is the gothic
commemorative painting

Crucifixion
-
made by a Silesian painter from the workroom
of the
Wrocław
Master of the Holy Family. The painting is dated for the end of XV centu¬
ry. Next things are gothic relieves from
Kłodzko
and
Kłodzko
Land
-
Madonna with Siskin
(half of
XIV
century),
Christus
Worried (beginning of
XVI
century) and
bas-
relieves from
the church in
Jaszkowa Dolna
made between
1510
and
1520
that image saint: Barbara, Cathe¬
rine, Margaret and Dorothy.
Everyday life is imaged with relics that have been discovered as result of archeological
researches in following places:
Kłodzko, Nysa, Świdnica, Wrocław,
castle in
Bardo
and
Szczerba
castle close to
Gniewoszów.
Medieval leather shoes, ceramic dishes, tiles, working-
tools, armoring parts and buckles are some of the relics that have been exhibited. Visitors
can see: how homesteads and living conditions were, information about local fine beer and
secrets of
Kłodzkos
convents, original ceramic flasks that were used by medieval pilgrims.
To show how medieval craftsmen worked wide iconography has been used: miniatures from
XV century

and from cracovian Kodeh

Behema
from
1507
from the collection of the
Jagiellońska
Library. Only because of the exhibition the-
re have been made facsimiles of documents, replicas of townspeople clothes and furniture.
Intentions of the organizers were creating some illusion and getting visitors in mysterious
and dark atmosphere of the late-medieval town. As concerns the artistic arrangement there
have been used large format pictures (showing gothic monuments and architectonic details
remaining till nowadays) and the oldest panoramas of the town.

Kry¬
styna Oniszczuk-Awiżeń,
artistic arrangement by
Klaudia Lutosławska-Nowak
and
Andrzej
Nowak,
graphics by
Marek W. Szpak
and photographs by
Tomasz Gmerek. Ireneusz Żebrak,
Sebastian Hewko and
Łukasz Grudzień
have been responsible for technical realization. Com¬
pletely new exhibition space is the end result of the museum workers efforts. Music compo¬
sition by
Marcin Wawruk
and scripts read by
Marek Mazurkiewicz
(actor and director of the
Polanica Zdrój
MCK) enhance the medieval climate.
Organization of the exhibit happened in the five-hundred fiftieth anniversary of the
Kłodzko
County erection. The exhibit was possible to be done through refinancing by Mar¬
shal Office of the Lower Silesia and the Management of
Kłodzko
County. The exhibit will be
open till end of the may
2010.
This publication that is a kind of the exhibitions guide book is dedicated to all fans of the
Middle Ages. The authors have showed the most important problems which the exhibition
touched. The publication is generously illustrated with photographs showing precious and
unique Gothic relics in
Kłodzko.
