Plastics in Medical Devices provides the reader with a comprehensive overview of all the main types of plastics used in
medical device applications. The author takes a practical approach to the subject, focusing on applications and the properties
that are most important in medical device design, such as chemical resistance, sterilization capability, and biocompatibility.
The synthesis and production of each polymer or family of polymers are described in some detail. This is because the monomers,
solvents, and catalysts employed in their synthesis and their purification methods will have an effect on critical properties like
sterilization and biocompatibility.
Vinny Sastri supports these detailed descriptions with a wealth of data tables. The property tables for the materials are those
of the unfilled, virgin polymers. The data presented is a composite obtained from various commercial grades. The author also
considers the roles of additives, stabilizers, and fillers.
