Zusammenfassung:This romantic comedy devoid of romanticism is a work of avant-garde sensibility that takes as seriously as possible the dictum that the personal is political. Doris and Mildred are a middle-aged lesbian couple whose lives are disrupted when Doris develops breast cancer and undergoes a mastectomy. In dispensing detailed, alarming information about the incidence and treatment of breast cancer, the film suggests that the characters' lives have been determined to a frightening degree by sexism, homophobia, and corporate capitalism, by a system that flourishes by marginalizing homosexuality and older people. Despite this, the film shows that the relationship they cultivate, with a conscientious sense of respecting each other's individuality, is a difficult task for two stubborn individuals, although worth the struggle
