Summary
This thesis is aimed at promoting horn as an instrument, widening its reper¬
toire and practical applications of the experimental performance methods, as
well as opening the door for the new forms of artistic expression. The aim has
been achieved thanks to a specific and original idea. It consists in preparing
the repertoire for horn quartet, and then
-
recording it by one performer
-
author of this thesis. The crowning of the task described at the beginning
was publishing a CD album
-
Quattrocorno.
The detailed analysis of the idea and its process of realization is described
in this text, which is a deliberation about the target the author set himself,
and a chronicle recording his way of thinking, problems, stages of work and,
finally, the assessment of the end product step by step. There are also nume¬
rous discussions about the legitimacy and perspectives for such an idea.
The presented material is organized in four chapters.
1.
Promoting horn in contemporary realities is a chapter giving the reason
for choosing this topic and using unconventional solutions. It describes
the image of horn in the contemporary market thinking and the argu¬
ments for searching innovative promotion methods, such as the idea of
the CD Quattrocorno.
2.
From an idea to its realization
-
analysis of the score is an analysis of
the works and problems of their arrangement. It presents and justifies
the reperoire on the CD album Quattrocorno. Searching for the right
pieces often forced the author to start his own creative work to arrange
music for the quartet of four horns. In the chapter one can read about
the criterion of choice, as well as information about composers and their
works, about music in general and, where relevant, about problems resul¬
ting from its rearrangement.

Remarks about making the recording

part describing the process of
recording. Description of the stages and problems happening during the
realization of the idea in a recording studio. Certain regularities (as well
as traps) have been described in general, but, of course, specific exam¬
ples are given.
4.
Recording the horn quartets by one performer
-
meaning and perspective
for the idea. In this chapter the end product is presented. The author
discusses the artistic value of his recordings, he takes various circum-

stances
into consideration and compares his own performances to tra¬
ditional recordings. He also ponders on the meaning and perspectives
for this already completed idea.
Summary of the thesis presents conclusions drawn from all chapters, as well
as the author s punch line of the completed work, while the bibliography
complements the contents of the thesis.
To obtain greater comprehensibility of the text, the author included the
described examples of scores; the relevant fragments were pasted in and
numbered, hence, there is no need to leaf through the scores. If such a need
occurs, one can look into the whole music material.
