GRÉTRY ET THOMAS D HÈLE Comédie de Thomas d Hèle, mêlée d ariettes composées par André- Ernest-Modeste Grétry, Les Fausses apparences ou L Amant jaloux fut créée à Versailles le 20 novembre 1778 puis à Paris le 23 décembre, dans le temps de l Avent donc, et au milieu des réjouissances accompagnant la naissance de Madame Royale, le premier enfant du couple royal. Ce 23 opéra de Grétry - le second réalisé avec d Hèle - obtint aussitôt un franc succès, bien que cette double création fût jalonnée de quelques péripéties ; l œuvre fut donnée sans interruption jusqu au début mars 1779, abondamment commentée, et elle fut très souvent reprise en France et à l étranger. La musique de Grétry suscita rapidement de nombreux arrangements pour toutes sortes de formations vocales et instrumentales. Le succès de L Amant jaloux dut probablement beaucoup à l intelligente collaboration des deux auteurs : Grimm reconnaissait qu il n y avait peut-être aucun poète « dont le génie ait sympathisé plus heureusement avec celui de Grétry », aucun qui lui ait fourni « des sujets et des situations plus analogues au caractère de sa musique ». Regards croisés d historiens de l arc, de la littérature, du théâtre et de la musique, cet ouvrage a été réalisé avec le concours de Pierre Frantz, Dominique Lauvernier, Benjamin Pintiaux, Jacqueline Waeber et Jean Duron.
