SUMMARY
The above presented Guide to Holdings of the State Archives in
Łowicz
contains basic information on the history of the Archives, its present archival
records and principles of access.
The holdings have been systematized and presented in the following
order: general administration
-
both on state and local government levels,
special administration, justice and law enforcement institutions, files of reg¬
istry offices, guilds and crafts unions, economic entities and cooperatives,
financial and economic institutions, associations and unions, parties, politi¬
cal organizations and social movements, educational and cultural institu¬
tions, health care and social welfare institutions, family and estate archives
as well as collections.
A description of each archival fond presented in Guide includes a uni¬
form sequence of seven items:
1.
Name and number of the fond,
2.
Border
dates of the fond,
3.
Volume of the fond, presented in the archival units and
in running metres,
4.
Characteristics of the contents of the fond,
5.
Language
of the documents,
6.
Information on microfilms,
7.
Data on archival records
searching aid and
8.
Relevant bibliography. In additional comments there is
information on files of the same fond being in possession of other Archives,
their numbers, numbers of units and border dates.
The State Archives in
Łowicz
is nearly
60
years old. When established
in
1950,
it was the Division of the State Archives in
Łódź
and subsequent¬
ly of the State Archives of
Skierniewickie
Voivodeship. Since
1985
till the
present day it has been the Division of the State Archives in Warsaw. Its
holdings
-
as per the state of December
31 2007,
comprise
287
archival
fonds,
which contain
55 317
archival units, which accounts for approx.
611,71
running metres.
The archival records cover mainly the area of
Łowicz
town and
Łowicz
District, and only very few relate to the nearby territory. Chronologically the
holdings date from the 17th century but the majority of documents come
from the 19th and 20th centuries.

The oldest files date from the period of
Gniezno
archbishops ruling (set
of
W. Tarczyński,
files of
Łowicz
town and guilds). The most frequently
used
fonds
for the research purposes and genealogical search include notary
documents, files of registry offices, land registry, state administration
-
gen¬
eral and special.
Materials are rendered accessible free of charge in the study room to any
person interested as long as the law is not broken. One can also commission
the Archives staff to carry out a study search as well as genealogical and
thematic search. The staff make reproductions of the Archives files in accor¬
dance with the current price list. The study room is open daily, including
summer months, Monday to Friday, from

Die
vorgestellte Übersicht über
die
Bestände des Staatsarchivs in
Warszawa,
Filiale in
Łowicz
enthält Grundinformationen über die
Geschichte des Archivs, den aktuellen Bestand und über dessen
Nutzprinzipien.
Die Bestände sind darin in der nachstehenden Reihenfolge der Komplexe
systematisiert und beschrieben worden: Allgemeine Verwaltung, Gemeinde-
, Stadt- und Bezirkverwaltung, Sonderverwaltung, Institution des Rechtss¬
chutzes und der Rechtsprechung, Akten der Standesämter, Innungen und
Handwerkerverbände, Akten der wirtschaftlichen Organisationen und der
Genossenschaften, der finanziellen und wirtschaftlichen Institutionen, der
Assoziierungen, Verbände, Parteien, der politischen Organisationen und
sozialen Bewegungen,
Bildungs-
und Schulakten, Kulturinstitutionen, Akten
des Gesundheitsschutzes und der Sozialhilfe, Familien- und Vermögen¬
sarchive und sonstige Sammlungen und Kollektionen.
Die Beschreibung eines jeden in der Übersicht vorgestellten Bestandes
oder einer Sammlung enthält sieben Elemente: 1. Name und Nummer des
Bestandes, 2. Anfangs- und Enddatum des Bestandes, 3. Größe des Bes-

in Archiveinheiten und in laufenden Metern, 4. Charakteristik des
Bestandsinhalts, 5. Sprache der Dokumentation, 6. Information über die den
Stand der Mikroverfilmung, 7.Angaben über die archivarischen Registerhil¬
fen, 8. Wichtigere Bibliographie. In Anmerkungen befinden sich Informa¬
tionen über den Aufbewahrungsort von Akten desgleichen Bestandes in
anderen Archiven, über die ihm dort angehörige Registernummer, über die
Zahl der Einheiten und Anfangs- und Enddaten.
Das Staatsarchiv in
Łowicz
ist schon fast 60 Jahre alt. In seiner Entste¬
hungszeit, in 1950, war es eine Filiale des Staatsarchivs in
Łódź,
und dann -
des Staatsarchivs der Wojewodschaft
Skierniewice.
Seit 1985 bis heute
bleibt es eine auswärtige Filiale des Staatsarchivs in Warschau. Die
Archivbestände, dem Zustand am 31.12.2007 gemäß, bestehen aus 287
Komplexen und archivarischen Sammlungen, die 55317 Archiveinheiten
zählen. Das sind etwa 611,71 laufende Meter Archivalien.
Die aufbewahrten Archivalien betreffen vor allem
Łowicz
und die
Gemeinde
Łowicz,
und nur ein geringer Teil davon bezieht sich auf die
benachbarten Gebiete. Die Bestände greifen chronologisch auf das XVII.
Jahrhundert zurück, aber die Mehrheit der Dokumente stammt aus dem XIX.
und
XX.
Jh. Die ältesten Akten stammen aus den Zeiten der Herrschaft der
Erzbischöfe von Gnesen (Die Sammlung von
W. Tarczyński,
die Stadtakten
von
Łowicz,
die Akten der Handwerkerzünfte). Für wissenschaftliche und
genealogische Forschungen werden meistens die Akten des Standesamtes,
die notariellen und hypothekarischen Dokumente, als auch die Dokumente
der Allgemeinen Staats- und Sonderverwaltung ausgenutzt.
Das Staatsarchiv macht den Forschern die Archivmaterialien in dem
Arbeitsraum kostenlos zugänglich, soweit es vorschriftsmäßig durchgeführt
wird. Es besteht auch die Möglichkeit, genealogische, wissenschaftliche und
thematische Forschungen durch das Fachpersonal des Archivs durchfuhren
zu lassen und die Archivalien nach dem aktuellen Preisverzeichnis zu repro¬
duzieren.
Der wissenschaftliche Arbeitsraum ist täglich, auch in den Sommerferien
von Montag bis Freitag in der Zeit von 9.00 - 15.00 Uhr geöffnet.
