Illustration Sources
Illustrations
3, 4, 7, 8, 11, 15, 30, 33, 35, 42, 43, 44,
and
45
were produced by scanning photographs taken by the author in
1942, 1943
and
1944.
The photos were taken with a Kodak
35
f
5.6
camera, a gift from fellow Eastman Kodak employees
upon the author s departure for military service in 1939.The
film used was Kodak Panchromatic Safety film. The two ex¬
posed film rolls lay in their aluminum containers for
30
years
before being developed and printed.
Illustrations
12,13, 14, 18, 19,20, 21,22, 27,
and
31
were pro¬
duced by scanning 35mm (positive) glass slides selected from
the U.S. Navy World War II recognition training set of over
600
slides.
The source graphics for Illustrations
1-6, 9-Ю, 16-17, 23-26,
28-29, 32, 34
and
36-37,
are acknowledged where the these
appear. Illustrations
38-41
are tables formed by Microsoft Word
software with author inputs.
