EDITORIAL
In this double issue I am pleased to be joined by Christopher Rowe in editing a selection of
papers from the International Plato Society s symposium on Plato s Statesman. We shared the
task of selecting the papers; one important criterion was that we judged they dealt with aspects
of the dialogue which would be of interest to the readers of this journal, either tackling
explicitly political matters or treating issues which have to be faced by anyone who wishes to
consider the Statesman as a contribution to Plato s political thought. I undertook the arranging
of translations into English where necessary, and the imposing of some measure of uniformity
of style between papers.
