It first examines the principles of idealism, Realism, Pragmatism, Existentialism, and Philosophical Analysis, explaining how each might be adopted as a basis for solving computing dilemmas. The book then presents a worksheet of key questions to be used in solving dilemmas. Twenty-nine cases, drawn from the real-life experiences of computer professionals, are included in the book as a means of letting students experiment with solving ethical dilemmas and identify the philosophical underpinnings of the solutions."--BOOK JACKET. |

Ethics: A Case-Based Approach teaches students to solve eth¬
ical dilemmas in the field of computing, taking a philosophical, rather
than a legal, approach to the topic. It first examines the principles of Ide¬
alism, Realism, Pragmatism, Existentialism, and Philosophical Analysis,
explaining how each might be adopted as a basis for solving comput¬
ing dilemmas. The book then presents a worksheet of key questions to
be used in solving dilemmas. Twenty-nine cases, drawn from the real-
life experiences of computer professionals, are included in the book as
a means of letting students experiment with solving ethical dilemmas
and identify the philosophical underpinnings of the solutions.
Robert
N.
Barger is an associate professor in the Computer Applications
Program at the University of Notre Dame and professor emeritus at
Eastern Illinois University, where he received several awards for teach¬
ing excellence. He has spent the last thirty-six years teaching and writing
on computer ethics and educational issues. |

Twenty-nine cases, drawn from the real-life experiences of computer professionals, are included in the book as a means of letting students experiment with solving ethical dilemmas and identify the philosophical underpinnings of the solutions."--BOOK JACKET.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Ordinateurs - Aspect moral</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Technologie de l'information - Aspect social</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Ethik</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Gesellschaft</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Computers</subfield><subfield code="x">Moral and ethical aspects</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Information technology</subfield><subfield code="x">Social aspects</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Computer</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4070083-5</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Ethik</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4015602-3</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Datenverarbeitung</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4011152-0</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Datenverarbeitung</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4011152-0</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="1"><subfield code="a">Ethik</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4015602-3</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="5">DE-604</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Computer</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4070083-5</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="1" ind2="1"><subfield code="a">Ethik</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4015602-3</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="5">DE-604</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2=" "><subfield code="u">http://www.loc.gov/catdir/enhancements/fy0810/2007049088-b.html</subfield><subfield code="3">Contributor biographical information</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2=" "><subfield code="u">http://www.loc.gov/catdir/enhancements/fy0810/2007049088-d.html</subfield><subfield code="3">Publisher description</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2=" "><subfield code="u">http://www.loc.gov/catdir/enhancements/fy0810/2007049088-t.html</subfield><subfield code="3">Table of contents only</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="2"><subfield code="m">Digitalisierung UB Regensburg</subfield><subfield code="q">application/pdf</subfield><subfield code="u">http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=018732610&sequence=000003&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA</subfield><subfield code="3">Inhaltsverzeichnis</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="2"><subfield code="m">Digitalisierung UB Regensburg</subfield><subfield code="q">application/pdf</subfield><subfield code="u">http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=018732610&sequence=000004&line_number=0002&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA</subfield><subfield code="3">Klappentext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="943" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">oai:aleph.bib-bvb.de:BVB01-018732610</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |
