Zusammenfassung:In 1987, then about 50 years old, Baselitz for the first time declared himself ready to speak in front of a film camera about his youth, career, the hungry and the successful years as well as his uncompromising demands on his own work. At that time the artist characterized his paintings as untalented, deliberately disharmonic and anchored in the 'ugly tradition' of German painting. Seventeen years later, art critic and filmmaker Heinz Peter Schwerfel confronts him with his provocative statements of 1987 on the occasion of his big retrospective at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn. A very much more mild and serene Baselitz explains how he discovered new themes and techniques and how he handles his biographical topics with an elegance and ease which formerly were unimaginable.
