The New Handbook of
SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION

BHATIA
The New I
landbook
of Second Language. Acquisition is a thoroughly revised, re-organized,
and re-worked edition of Ritchie and Bhatia s
1996
handbook. A great many changes
have occurred in the field since the first edition appeared and the New Handbook has
been designed to reflect those1
changes.
Although a number of contributors to the first
edition have also contributed to the New Handbook, they have provided completely
new, up-to-date chapters for publication in this volume. Other chapters have been
contributed by new authors.
The work is divided into six parts, each devoted to a different aspect of the study of
SLA.
Рані
I includes a recent history of methods used in
Ѕ1Л
research and an overview
of currently used methods.
Pari 11
contains chapters on each of six major approaches
to the1 study of second language acquisition
